The Maxi Skirt

One of the problems with being tall is that alot of the skirts I try on are mini-length on me, even if they aren't supposed to be.  Being in my 30's and having two small kids means that wearing super-short skirts is neither practical nor appropriate.

So, I was thrilled to see how designers embraced maxi skirts & dresses at the Spring 2011 runway shows.  I love how versatile these full-length skirts are.  You can pair them with a simple tank top and flat sandals or dress them up more for evening.  The layers of flowing fabric make the modern styles more bohemian-chic than "Little House on the Prairie".  Some examples:

I personally am on the hunt for one that I can wear with a basic tee, leather belt & wedge sandals for those days when I want to feel feminine, but still be comfortable!

I just feel like I can't pull off the maxi skirts. Everyone looks so great and comfortable in them but i feel like I would be the exception to that!

I used to feel that way, too...but you should grab some and try them on next time you're out shopping. You may be surprised! Of course, fit & shape is important - it may just be a matter of finding the right one. :)

I haven't quite given into the Maxi trend yet. For one, I'm more of a jeans gal or shorts in the summer. I'm just not as comfortable in dresses especially the long ones. I feel like a granny in her night gown. But some people look fabulous.

I'm right there with you on the height issue. When I do venture outside of my comfort zone, its hard not to feel like everyone's getting a nice "view". I usually opt for leggings. Its the best of both worlds. Wearing a skirt but still feel comfortable!!
