Forever 21 Finds

Several of you have asked me recently for tips when shopping at the mega-store Forever 21.  I know how daunting it can be to walk into a store this size with tons of merchandise & try to figure out where to begin!  My "rule" is that I only go when I am by myself (with no kids in tow) and when I have at least an hour or more to spend looking through racks.  I also always ask for a shopping bag right when I walk in...because I undoubtedly will end up with two armfuls of clothes that I'm struggling to carry to the fitting room.

It's no secret that some of their things are not the highest quality, but there are gems to be found if you take your time.  Pay close attention to stitching at the seams & the lining.  Obviously, fit is very important...but if you find something you love, you can have it altered or swap out the buttons to make it look more expensive.  And you can always forgo the trip to the mall altogether & order online - purchases of $50 or more get free shipping + you can return items that don't work through the mail for a full refund...which you cannot do in store.  In addition to the picks below, I also love this dress & could probably do another entire post on their jewelry alone!

Polka Dot Fringe Scarf - $9.80 (also in peach & taupe)
Colorblock Trim Floppy Hat - $12.80 (also in hot pink & turquoise)
Love 21 Cutaway Jacket - $29.80 (also in green)

Excellent finds. Totally agree with you regarding stitching, detailing. Didn't realize you could return via mail for a refund, nice! That yellow shirt is so you. :) Love that mesh sweater and the ikat print top, as well as the floral skirt... pretty!

You definitely have finding the gems at F21 down to an art. I'm always amazed at the pieces you find! I only shop online though, not F21 close by. I was JUST looking at the printed pleated skirt yesterday! But the length is a little too short, even for me, but that belted polka dot dress looks promising!

I could probably buy my entire wardrobe from F21. Le sigh. Last fall I put a ban on myself, which forced me to branch out haha. They really do have some great stuff and the pieces you picked are fab! I try to go in there sparingly :)

Great tips! It's funny how you can get a refund online but not when you buy in store...love the surplus jacket!

Great post. I've never ventured into an F21, but the belted trench vest and floral skirt might make me take a trip.

I love all these picks! I'd totally wear the yellow blouse with the floral skirt with the sleeveless trench over top! So cute!

hey! you have the mustard peter pan collar shirt, right? i saw that come back in stock and thought of you. LOVE that belt too. i almost always exclusively shop f21 online. and usually only shop the LOVE 21 line since the sizes are a half size up and i SWEAR the quality of that line is better too.

If I see something I like online, I tend to buy it there and not in the store - I feel like it's almost impossible to find specific things in there! I do agree with you that I have to go in the store alone and with plenty of time to spend looking around!

Cute finds! Love the polka dot dress and the ditsy bird skirt! I am totally with you! You have to go into Forever with some time on your hands in order to be able to really look around and find the great pieces!

Great picks! When I go to Forever 21, I always go with a mission. If I know what I am looking for I don't get overwhelmed.

The key to Forever 21 is patience, having a lot of time like you said, and going when it isn't completely jammed with teenagers! Love your picks!

Oh these are great tips. The NYC F21s really terrify me, although the times I have been to get a present for a friend, or go for something specific I have in mind, I have much better luck. Having a bit of a list is probably a very good idea with this store!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Topshop had an identical peter pan collared mustard blouse last year and I didn't act quick enough. It's the blouse of my dreams and am beyond excited you posted this or I would have no idea a just as cute, (cheaper) version existed!
