Flat Footed

With the exception of my slip-on oxfords (last seen here), I don't wear alot of flats.  That is, until recently when I was diagnosed with tendonitis in my left foot.  This condition makes wearing heels still doable, but somewhat painful for long periods of time.  Since my podiatrist strongly encouraged me to lay off pumps as much as possible until it heals, I have been on the hunt for some classic flats.  The styles below are my top picks ~ easy to dress up or down, perfect for fall & all under $50!

Gone Graphic

I don't know what it is that has me completely drawn to black & white pieces this season, but I can't seem to get enough (see the proof here and here).  Maybe it's because they're so easy to contrast against bold bright hues, but look equally as striking when the graphic theme is kept throughout an ensemble.  Versatile pieces like this are great wardrobe extenders because you can remix them in so many different ways. {Love this glossy teal wristlet I'm carrying?  Check back tomorrow for an amazing new giveaway!}

Maine Moments

We had such a fabulous long weekend in Maine - it was the perfect mix of relaxation, sightseeing & family time.  My only regret was that we didn't get more pictures of Sebago Lake and our time out on the water...but my husband was too nervous that something would happen to our camera, so we didn't bring it on the boat with us.  Here are some of my favorite photos from our trip:

Denim + Tweed

There is definitely something to be said for classic pieces that stand the test of time - like this tweed jacket I scored on eBay last year.  It has just enough modern touches in the styling to make it feel current.  And it works well for day or evening, though my preferred pairing is usually a simple combination like this one.  I love the mix of different textures (tweed, distressed denim & sequins) with just a small pop of color.

Travel Attire

Today we're leaving to drive up the coast & visit some friends in Maine - I am so excited to take in the sights while exploring a new area, enjoy some fresh lobster and make memories as a family.  I chose this as my casual traveling outfit and I'm really loving the navy, pink & mint combination.  Since it's a 9-hour drive and comfort is key, flat sandals + light layers were a must.  Clearly, something about going on this mini-vacation has me giddy because I couldn't stop laughing during this shoot!

Under the Collar

The weather unexpectedly cooled down this weekend - not to the point of needing a jacket, but it was definitely breezy enough to require some light layers.  As I spent time in my closet debating what to wear to church yesterday, I stumbled upon this blouse-over-dress combination.  And I couldn't resist adding my new metal necklace, which created a layered collar effect & further emphasizes the buttoned-up, demure look.

Opposites Attract

When I first received this tank, it seemed a natural fit with skinny jeans and ballet flats...but when paired with a (faux) leather pencil skirt & platforms, it takes on a more modern vibe.  I personally love dressing up casual items or dressing down the fanciest of pieces because it gives them an effortless, unstuffy feel and increases the versatility of your wardrobe.  Other combinations to try using this same rule of opposites: chambray shirt + sequin skirt, black tuxedo blazer + grey tank & cutoffs, simple tee + lace pencil skirt.

Neck Candy

Collar necklaces have been everywhere lately and as much as I wanted one, I never really found a style I loved at the right price.  Then earlier this week while making a return at Forever 21, I spotted this beauty sitting among some other jewelry on a display table.  It was the only one in the whole store and I couldn't find a link to it online (sorry!) - also, I was pretty pleased that it was under $20.  I decided to dress it down with a simple shell + jeans...and because it is such a strong statement piece, I chose to skip the arm party and let the necklace speak for itself.

Fall Colors

Fall is by far my favorite season ~ the leaves start changing, there is that cool crisp in the air and we see the return of layers, boots & jackets.  Another reason I always look forward to autumn is because I can pull out my dark polishes, which somehow feel so much more chic & sophisticated after a summer of brights & neons.  Here are my favorites for the coming months ~ in a range of colors & price points, there's something here for everyone.

Whiteout

I have been in love with the monochromatic trend since it began, but had yet to attempt it...mainly because I didn't have enough pieces that were the same color to pull it off.  So I decided that before fall is here, I needed to give it a try with all white (which I have plenty of).  I was surprised at how many different combinations I was able to come up with using items in my closet, but this one (with the addition of some metallic accents) was my favorite.
