Flat Footed

With the exception of my slip-on oxfords (last seen here), I don't wear alot of flats.  That is, until recently when I was diagnosed with tendonitis in my left foot.  This condition makes wearing heels still doable, but somewhat painful for long periods of time.  Since my podiatrist strongly encouraged me to lay off pumps as much as possible until it heals, I have been on the hunt for some classic flats.  The styles below are my top picks ~ easy to dress up or down, perfect for fall & all under $50!

4) C-Label Hudson 10 - $49.00
5) ASOS LASSOO - $47.68
6) C-Label Hudson 11 - $29.00
7) Cosmopolitan Zima - $30.00
9) Christian Siriano for Payless Juliana - $39.99

Gone Graphic

I don't know what it is that has me completely drawn to black & white pieces this season, but I can't seem to get enough (see the proof here and here).  Maybe it's because they're so easy to contrast against bold bright hues, but look equally as striking when the graphic theme is kept throughout an ensemble.  Versatile pieces like this are great wardrobe extenders because you can remix them in so many different ways. {Love this glossy teal wristlet I'm carrying?  Check back tomorrow for an amazing new giveaway!}

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 blouse (here), Thrifted shorts (last seen here; similar), JW Anderson for ALDO Rise pumps (on sale here), c/o Stephanie Johnson wristlet (here), Vintage rings, Target sunnies (similar), Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Adore, Nails: Sally Hansen Summer Plum

Maine Moments

We had such a fabulous long weekend in Maine - it was the perfect mix of relaxation, sightseeing & family time.  My only regret was that we didn't get more pictures of Sebago Lake and our time out on the water...but my husband was too nervous that something would happen to our camera, so we didn't bring it on the boat with us.  Here are some of my favorite photos from our trip:

Denim + Tweed

There is definitely something to be said for classic pieces that stand the test of time - like this tweed jacket I scored on eBay last year.  It has just enough modern touches in the styling to make it feel current.  And it works well for day or evening, though my preferred pairing is usually a simple combination like this one.  I love the mix of different textures (tweed, distressed denim & sequins) with just a small pop of color.

What I'm wearing:
Zara jacket (similar save or splurge), Old Navy shirt (similar), Forever 21 jeans (similar), ALDO pumps (on sale here), Zara clutch (similar), Forever 21 bracelet (here), Banana Republic ring, Target sunnies (similar), Nails: Sally Hansen Wet Cement, Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Sweetheart

Travel Attire

Today we're leaving to drive up the coast & visit some friends in Maine - I am so excited to take in the sights while exploring a new area, enjoy some fresh lobster and make memories as a family.  I chose this as my casual traveling outfit and I'm really loving the navy, pink & mint combination.  Since it's a 9-hour drive and comfort is key, flat sandals + light layers were a must.  Clearly, something about going on this mini-vacation has me giddy because I couldn't stop laughing during this shoot!

What I'm wearing:
Gap blouse (last seen here; similar), H&M skinnies (last seen here; similar), Old Navy scarf (here), Dolce Vita sandals  (here or similar for less here), Forever 21 tote (here), Michael Kors watch, Vintage & Banana Republic/DIY bracelet (instructions here), Vintage rings, Dockers aviators (similar), Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Sweetheart

Arbonne Giveaway ~ CLOSED

So many of you have asked about my skincare and beauty routine lately - in case you missed it or are new to the site, you can read a detailed account of my process here and here.  Due to the amount of interest, I thought it would be fun to do a little mini-giveaway of some of the products that I love and swear by so you can try them for yourself and see how great they are!  One lucky PPF reader will win a full-size Arbonne makeup primer (read the glowing reviews here) & one Arbonne eyeshadow color of their choice (Ivy, Linen & Divine Plum shown below):

One of the many things I love about the Arbonne brand is that their products are made with natural herbal and botanical ingredients, they don't test on animals & they are formulated without mineral oil, dyes or chemical fragrances.  And because they are exclusively sold through independent consultants, it's like having your own beauty expert at your disposal to help you choose the right products for your skin.  If you are interested in learning more about Arbonne's skin care, anti-aging products or makeup, email Tara & she can help get you started!

1) You must be a follower of mine (US residents only) on Google, BlogLovin, Facebook or Twitter and leave a comment with your email address so I can contact you if you win.
That's it - super easy!!

Congrats to Penny S ~ I will be contacting you shortly to get your mailing address!

Under the Collar

The weather unexpectedly cooled down this weekend - not to the point of needing a jacket, but it was definitely breezy enough to require some light layers.  As I spent time in my closet debating what to wear to church yesterday, I stumbled upon this blouse-over-dress combination.  And I couldn't resist adding my new metal necklace, which created a layered collar effect & further emphasizes the buttoned-up, demure look.

What I'm wearing:
Zara blouse (last seen here; similar), Trouve dress (last seen here; similar here or here), Pieces collar necklace (here), Guess pumps (on sale here), Expressions NYC miniaudiere (similar), Nails: Sally Hansen Wet Cement

Opposites Attract

When I first received this tank, it seemed a natural fit with skinny jeans and ballet flats...but when paired with a (faux) leather pencil skirt & platforms, it takes on a more modern vibe.  I personally love dressing up casual items or dressing down the fanciest of pieces because it gives them an effortless, unstuffy feel and increases the versatility of your wardrobe.  Other combinations to try using this same rule of opposites: chambray shirt + sequin skirt, black tuxedo blazer + grey tank & cutoffs, simple tee + lace pencil skirt.

What I'm wearing:
StyleMint tank (30% off your first-time purchase with code SMNEW30), Forever 21 skirt (last seen here; similar), c/o Ann Taylor heels (on sale here), J. Crew necklace (via eBay), Rafē New York clutch (via eBay; similar), Vintage bracelets, Target sunnies (similar), Lips: Revlon Colorburst Coral

Neck Candy

Collar necklaces have been everywhere lately and as much as I wanted one, I never really found a style I loved at the right price.  Then earlier this week while making a return at Forever 21, I spotted this beauty sitting among some other jewelry on a display table.  It was the only one in the whole store and I couldn't find a link to it online (sorry!) - also, I was pretty pleased that it was under $20.  I decided to dress it down with a simple shell + jeans...and because it is such a strong statement piece, I chose to skip the arm party and let the necklace speak for itself.

What I'm wearing:
ASOS top (similar), Forever 21 jeans (similar), tote (here) & necklace (similar save or splurge), ALDO booties (on sale here)

And speaking of amazing jewelry...come check out my first post as a contributing writer for the Poshlocket Blog - I'm sharing my favorite statement pieces from their site (all under $50)!

Fall Colors

Fall is by far my favorite season ~ the leaves start changing, there is that cool crisp in the air and we see the return of layers, boots & jackets.  Another reason I always look forward to autumn is because I can pull out my dark polishes, which somehow feel so much more chic & sophisticated after a summer of brights & neons.  Here are my favorites for the coming months ~ in a range of colors & price points, there's something here for everyone.

Monday, August 13, 2012

I have been in love with the monochromatic trend since it began, but had yet to attempt it...mainly because I didn't have enough pieces that were the same color to pull it off.  So I decided that before fall is here, I needed to give it a try with all white (which I have plenty of).  I was surprised at how many different combinations I was able to come up with using items in my closet, but this one (with the addition of some metallic accents) was my favorite.

What I'm wearing:
H&M blazer (similar), Candies top (last seen here; on sale here), Mossimo jeans (similar), Guess pumps (on sale here), Expressions NYC clutch (via TJ Maxx), Fossil watch (here), Vintage bracelets, Dockers aviators (similar), Lips: Revlon Super Lustrous Coral Berry
