4 Ways to Wear + Go Chic or Go Home

For this month's 4WTW, I decided to focus on a trend that is huge for fall - the cigarette pant.  I found this vintage pair at a thrift store for less than $10 - though mine are a silk shantung & have a dressier feel to them, you can apply these same pairing ideas with any slim cropped trousers you already have (basic black, printed, brightly hued).  Since we are entering layering season, I tried to use combinations that would work for the cooler weather (and most are work-appropriate too).

To make things easier on myself, I used the ensemble tool in Go Chic or Go Home to determine what pieces would look best together.  I first introduced readers to their site in this post.  (If you aren't yet a member, you can request an invite here.)  It was so simple to pull items from my closet and create different looks - I personally find it so much better than standing in my room, staring at clothes on the rack.  And this way, not everything ends up in an enormous pile on the floor!  This will definitely be my new system for arranging outfits I want to try in the future and will come in handy for all my upcoming 4WTW posts!

Shades of Autumn

Since I don't have a ton of hanging space in my wardrobe room, I usually pack away my out-of-season clothes and pull them out when the weather changes.  So, when the temperatures dropped into the 40's this week, I started going through my storage containers of fall clothing...only to discover that I have a serious lack of autumnal shades in my wardrobe.  After realizing this, I've been on a mission to add more rich fall colors into my closet - first on my list: green, plum, mustard, navy & burgundy.  These pieces below fit within the palette I'm after & would be perfectly versatile all season long:

This post is sponsored by eBay. From the new to the hard to find, when it's on your mind, it's on eBay.

Hot For Houndstooth

Along with leopard, florals & plaid, houndstooth is a print that regularly resurfaces in fashion - this year in particular, there was an abundance of the graphic pattern all over Fall 2012 runways.  It gives off a slightly preppy vibe, but when mixed dressed-down basics or edgy accents, the result is completely modern.  Here are my affordable picks (all under $65) for those looking to add some to their wardrobe this fall:

Marshall's Style Challenge

I was so excited when Marshall's contacted me about being involved in their blogger's style challenge.  They sent me a $100 gift card to use to create an entire look based around one of the following themes: color, prints or ladylike with an edge.  I love a good challenge so I couldn't wait to head to my local store and check out their new arrivals for fall.

After browsing through the racks and making repeated trips to the dressing room, I finally decided to try incorporating all 3 themes into my outfit.  Here's a breakdown of the pieces I'm wearing & how much I spent (full disclosure: I did go over the $100 limit & chose to use $20 of my own, because I was needing to replace my old black pumps & these were perfect):

French Connection snake-print blouse - $49.99 (orig. $128)
Kenar wool pencil skirt - $24.99 (orig. $42)
Ralph Lauren Amelie pumps - $45.00 (orig. $99)

{In addition to the items listed above, I'm also wearing: ASOS clutch (on sale here), Accessorize necklace (similar), Bracelets: Vintage & J. Crew, Lips: CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Smooch}

The most exciting part about this challenge is that Marshall's also graciously sent me another $100 gift card to share with one lucky reader - for them to use in creating their own head-to-toe look!

HOW TO ENTER:
1) Follow PPF on at least one of these platforms: FacebookTwitter or BlogLovin
2) Leave a comment below with your email address

And our winner is...

Candra

Congratulations - I will be emailing you shortly & sending off your gift card for you to shop for your own designer pieces for less from Marshall's!

Coffee Date

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen me tweet last week about my husband losing his job as part of a large layoff at the company where he worked.  Though there are challenging & uncertain days ahead, we are choosing to focus on the positive ~ like the fact that him being home now allows us middle-of-the-day dates while the kids are in school.  We took full advantage of it earlier this week & took a leisurely stroll through a tree-lined street in one of our favorite neighborhoods...then warmed up with coffee & treats at a little outdoor cafe.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Sheinside top (here), H&M pants (similar - use code EQUINOXBR for 25% off), C-Label flats (here), Necklaces: Forever 21 (similar) & c/o JewelIQ (here), Vintage Ferragamo bag (found at Savers for $8!), gifted Ray Ban sunnies (similar), Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Adore, Nails: Sally Hansen Red Zin

Koret Handbags Giveaway ~ CLOSED

I have another fabulous giveaway for you this week ~ to be honest, I really wish I could win this one myself!  Koret Handbags has been in business for over 80 years...in fact, I was fascinated to learn that they designed bags specifically for Grace Kelly & Jacqueline Kennedy!  More recently, they have been featured in countless fashion magazines (where I first discovered them) and seen on Gossip Girl.  Their new fall line caught my attention because of the beautiful colors & textures, plus they look so much more expensive than they are.

Koret Handbags has graciously offered to giveaway this gorgeous Pure Ostrich oversized clutch, which also doubles as an iPad case & just happens to be the perfect accent color for your fall wardrobe!
Here's how you can enter to win (open to ALL my readers, even international!):

Modern Sheath

Though I am a stay-at-home mom and don't normally have a reason to get as dressed up as I used to when I was working, I believe every woman should have at least one or two classic sheath dresses in her closet.  They are so versatile (date nights, church, Christmas parties, weddings, work), will never go out of style and you can change up the accessories to create different looks.  I love the modern twist of this London Times version - the combination of the "baby" peplum and graphic colorblocking is ultra-flattering...and because the fabric is scuba, it's incredibly comfortable too.

What I'm wearing:
c/o London Times dress (here - also love this striped dress & this mod shift), c/o Fabulous on a Dime necklace (similar), Nina booties (similar), Target sunnies (similar), Merona clutch (here), Lips: CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Smooch

NYC Shopping Diary

Months prior to my NYC trip, I began saving my money - I knew there would be plenty of opportunities for shopping and I wanted to be able to take full advantage, without putting purchases on my credit card or feeling guilty.  The wonderful surprise was that for our experience day with Lucky, they graciously gave us $100 gift cards to spend at both Piperlime Aritzia.  I normally never pay full price for something (unless it's from Forever 21, Target or H&M), but since I had saved my dollars specifically for this trip...I made an exception.

Here are the items I purchased using the money they gave us + a little bit of my own {also bought, but not seen below: T.Babaton black cashmere sweater (purchased using $100 gift card at Aritzia) and an H&M navy embellished cuff sweater (purchased for $59.95), both of which I couldn't find pictures or links to online}:

Hive & Honey Vintage Button Cardigan (also in mustard & charcoal) - $64.00
Pim + Larkin The Brigid Dress (also in teal, rust & black) - $79.00
Tinley Road Silk Sophia Blouse (also in white, mint, cobalt, rust & teal) - $79.00
Zara Necklace - $29.90

Cardigan Confession

I have a confession to make: up until about 2 months ago, I didn't own a single cardigan.  I have no real explanation for this - except that every time I wore one, I felt it looked too conservative for my personal taste and I couldn't quite get the styling right.  I've recently added 3 to my closet since I discovered the longer-length v-neck cardigans are perfect for me.  In fact, I'm starting to wonder how I ever lived without them.  So, when the weather took an unexpected dip over the weekend, I experimented by layering this lightweight striped one (very similar to the Gap style here, but for less!) over my cargo vest & adding a scarf...which proved to be an ideal combination for the cooler temperatures.

What I'm wearing:
StyleMint t-shirt (similar), Old Navy vest (similar), c/o Lily + Violet cardigan (here), Levi's jeans (on sale here), Old Navy scarf (similar here or here), RoseGold booties (via eBay; similar), Dockers aviators (similar), Vintage clutch (similar), Michael Kors watch, Bracelets: Forever 21 (on sale here) & c/o Christina M. Boutique (here), Nails: Sally Hansen Red Zin

Freeze 24-7 Giveaway ~ CLOSED

I am so excited about this week's giveaway ~ mostly because of the amazing results I have had since I began using it.  And when I discover something that works, I can't wait to share it with my readers!  Freeze 24-7 Eyecing is a cream treatment that is specifically formulated to help with dark under-eye circles & puffiness.  I have had dark circles under my eyes for as long as I can remember (even as a kid!) and now that I'm in my mid-thirties, I've started to notice fine lines around my eyes more too - not a great combination.

So, when Freeze 24-7 sent me this eye cream, I was slightly skeptical because I've tried just about everything else out there and haven't seen visible results.  But, after using it regularly, my "crows feet" & under-eye circles seemed to diminish and were less noticeable in just a few days (read more about the product here & the awards it's already won)!  When I went to NYC last week, I somehow had forgotten to pack my Eyecing and was completely hysterical when I realized I didn't have it (just ask Tiffany).

The great news is that Freeze 24-7 is giving away not one, not two, but THREE jars of this miracle-working cream to PPF readers...which means that 3 of you will win & get to try it out...and I know you'll be completely hooked once you do!  Here's all you need to do to enter (open to ALL my followers, even international):

1) Follow PPF on at least one of these platforms: Google, FacebookTwitter or BlogLovin
2) Like Freeze 24-7 on Facebook
3) Leave a comment below with your email address so we can contact you if you win

And our winners are:

Miki, Donna & Kelsy

Congratulations ladies - I will be emailing you soon to connect you with Freeze 24-7 so we can ship you your jars of Eyecing!

Purchase with Purpose

Today I have the honor of introducing you to an organization that is doing amazing things for women all around the world.  Fashion can be a very "self-centered" industry and I believe it's so important to take a step back and realize how fortunate we are & to reach out to those in need.  My personal goal is to do this more often here on PPF, because I began this site to help other women...and because I never want it to become all about me.

Did you know?  More than 800,000 people are trafficked every year (some right here in the US, including girls as young as age 5) and sex trafficking is the #2 largest source of profits for international organized crime...second only to drugs.  iSanctuary (stands for International Sanctuary) is a company that helps women who are survivors of human trafficking.  Their goal is to end the cycle by providing self-sufficiency options for girls who are rescued from these horrifying situations.

Since it's inception in 2007, iSanctuary has employed over 200 women & has provided them with a safe place where they can earn a living & reintegrate into society.  "When a young woman walks through the door at International Sanctuary, the label of "trafficked victim" is removed and she is immediately treated as an individual."

Each item of jewelry on their site is hand-made from a trafficking survivor.  When they sent me this bracelet earrings, I literally cried as I read the label attached to each piece, which was signed by the girl who made them.  Not only is the jewelry beautiful & unique, but every single purchase made helps benefit these young women who have had their lives nearly destroyed from being sold into slavery.

I personally can't think of a more worthy cause or a better gift to give.  Take a look at the pieces on their site (I'm loving this statement necklace, this stone bracelet & this cutout cuff) and read more about the great work they are doing here.
