Daytime Sequins

I'm a big believer in dressing up for no reason - especially when you've had a rough couple of days and need that extra little something to perk you up.  For me, there is no better way to do this than with sequins.  I love the idea of dressing down your fanciest top by layering a casual basic underneath & adding distressed denim for an effortless ladylike look.  Give it a try - it's an instant mood lifter!

What I'm wearing:
Gap turtleneck (similar), Vintage top (via Etsy; similar here or here), Forever 21 jeans (here) & bag (here), Mossimo pumps (here), J. Crew earrings (via eBay; similar here, here or here), Bracelets: Vintage, c/o LoveObsessed & J. Crew (similar save or splurge), Lips: Maybelline Fifth Ave Fuschia, Nails: Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine

Steals Under $30

I cannot believe I almost let a whole month go by without doing a SUT post!  Since I naturally gravitate towards stripes, for this edition I decided to show two of my favorite ways to wear them - with laid back pieces for the weekend and some modern print-mixing for the office.  As always, everything you see below is $30 or less!

Graphic Ground

After putting together this post, I was so anxious to see what outfit combinations I could come up with using black & white pieces from my own closet.  I love the mod vibe of this particular pairing, plus the mixed prints & color-blocking create enough visual interest that it only needed one bright bauble to complete the look.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Sheinside blouse (here), J. Crew shirt (similar here or here), The Limited jacket (similar), c/o Paige Denim jeans (here or similar for less here), ALDO heels (similar here or here), Mossimo bag (check your local stores; similar here or here), LOFT bracelet (on sale here), Lips: Maybelline Fifth Ave Fuschia

Recent Purchases

This is my second post of purchases for the month of January...I may have gone a little crazy during those great after holiday sales, so I'm anticipating shopping much less in February.  But, I was thrilled to find two basic pieces in my new favorite spring hue (lilac) and a few items I've been wanting for a while ~ the perfect lace pencil skirt (which I plan on wearing like this), a white handbag (love the Prada-esque shape) and statement earrings (much less than this J. Crew version I was stalking).

1) J. Crew Blythe Blouse - $29.99 (40% off with code GET40)
2) Simply Vera Vera Wang Earrings - $11.55 (30% off coupon)
3) ELLE Lace Skirt - $21.56 (30% off coupon)
4) J. Crew Tippi Sweater - $23.99 (40% off with code GET40)

The Shelf Giveaway ~ CLOSED

Not only do I have a great new giveaway for you today, but I'm also excited to introduce you to an amazing new site/shopping tool that will help save you money.  TheShelf.com is a place where you can create a wish list of the items you love and set alerts for the dollar amount you are willing to pay for them.  Once those pieces go on sale & fall within the price range you set, it will send you an alert so you can get the things you want for less!  To make it even easier, there's a button you can drag to your toolbar (similar to Pin It) so you can easily place items in your "shelf" while browsing online.  Genius, right?

Something else I love about their site - you can share your "shelves" with friends & family, which is perfect for birthday & Christmas, so you won't end up with gifts you have to return.  In addition to all this, there is also a Promo Tab where you choose the retailers you shop at most frequently & TheShelf.com will keep tabs on their sales & coupon codes for you (so you don't have to filter through all those sale emails in your inbox).

I have put together my own selection of items on TheShelf.com and 4 lucky PPF readers will get to choose their favorite piece from my shelf (or you can select a $50 gift card to the store of your choice).  Take a look at some of my picks below (view the full list here) and then read on for how you can enter to win!

HOW TO ENTER:
(Must be 18 years old and a US resident)

1) Follow PPF on at least one of these platforms: Facebook, Twitter or BlogLovin
2) Sign up at TheShelf.com & try it out!
3) Leave a comment below letting us know what you like best about the site or which item from my Shelf you'd choose if you win - please be sure to include your email address so we can reach you.

And our lucky winners are...

Leigh Anne, Laura, Sarah & Leeann

Congratulations ladies - I will be emailing you with information shortly so you can order the items of your choice!  Thanks to everyone who entered!!

Mini Getaway

With my mom in town & my husband just back from a long business trip, we decided to take advantage of the (free) in-house babysitting and getaway for a couple of nights.  Since Niagara Falls is just a short drive & we'd never visited together, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.  Unfortunately, the single-digit temperatures forced us to stay inside most of our first day, but we did manage to snap a few pictures before running back to the warmth of our hotel room.  So if I look cold in these photos, it's because I was!

What I'm wearing:
Old Navy sweater (similar here or here), Forever 21 coat (similar toggle-style, double-breasted or pea coat), Vintage stole (similar save or splurge), Levi's jeans (on sale here), H&M boots (similar here or here) & gloves (similar), Ann Taylor hat (on sale here), The Limited tote (similar), Simply Vera Vera Wang Aviators (similar)

Spring Fever

This is the time of year when I really start to envy my friends who live in California and Florida - all the new spring arrivals are hitting stores & online sites, but we still have 20-degree weather here in NY.  So, even though I may not be able to wear them now, I'm making my wish list of items I'd love to add to my closet once the climate is warm again.  I have also started a Pinterest board for affordable spring fashion - you can follow it here.  The picks below are some of my favorites for the coming season...and everything you see is under $50!

Red Alert

For the most part, I have no problem putting outfits together quickly - but for some reason, when it comes to dressing for church, I struggle every single Sunday.  I want to look stylish & polished, dressed up but not over-the-top...while still staying true to my own personal taste.  This particular outfit seemed to be the perfect compromise - I'm still wearing trendy pieces (bright trousers + printed peplum), but the overall look is simple (just one statement accessory) & sophisticated.  Maybe those of you who work in a conservative office environment can relate?  If so, I'd love to hear your solutions & favorite outfit combinations in the comments below.

What I'm wearing:
H&M top (similar), Mossimo blazer (here), LOFT trousers (similar here or here), Marc Fisher heels (similar), ASOS clutch (on sale here), Ann Taylor cuff (similar here or here), Target sunnies (similar), Nails: OPI A Roll in the Hague

Earth Tones

Since November, when my husband started working from home, we began a weekly tradition of coffee dates together on Wednesday mornings - after we drop the kids off at school, we drive into the city to our favorite little cafe and spend time just the two of us.  Sometimes I find myself looking forward to the middle of the week even more than the weekend because that alone time is so rare & special.  I wore this outfit on our date last week - I still can't get enough of plaid & this mix of rich earth tones felt right for the chilly (but snow-free!) weather.

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 sweater (similar), Old Navy coat (similar here or here), Target scarf (similar here or here), Jou Jou pants (via TJ Maxx; similar), c/o DMSX pumps (on sale here), gifted Zara bag (here or similar for less here), Bracelets: J. Crew (similar), Vintage & c/o INPINK (here), Dockers aviators (similar)

Cerulean State

Since I had an overwhelming response from readers after this post requesting more layered looks for the office, I have decided to try & incorporate some work-appropriate outfits here on a regular basis.  This is one of my new favorite ways to get more wear out of my sleeveless peplum tops during the colder months - just treat it like a vest & pair with a button-down blouse or turtleneck underneath (looks great with cropped trousers or skinny jeans too)!

What I'm wearing:
Madewell blouse (similar), Tinley Road top (on sale here), Ann Taylor skirt (on sale here & in petite here), H&M coat (similar here or here), Merona tights (here), ALDO booties (similar here or here)RafÄ“ New York clutch (via eBay; similar), c/o Outrage Fashion necklace (here), Michael Kors watch (similar), Bracelets: c/o Poshlocket (here) & H&M (similar), Target sunnies (similar)

Bold Black & Whites

If you watched my Style Chat with Send the Trend last week, you heard me talk about my obsession with all things black & white.  This was by far my favorite trend seen on the spring runways and I'm already starting to pull out pieces I can mix & match from my own closet.  I've put together over a dozen affordable options below so you can try this graphic, statement-making look without breaking the bank.  I've already bought #1, but am pretty sure I need #7, 8 & 15 too!

1) H&M Blouse // 2) Revlon Polish Duo // 3) Kate Spade Scarf (on major sale!// 4) Forever 21 Sweater

Color Pop

I recently decided that I need to make a more concerted effort to inject color into my winter wardrobe.  But since most of my bright pieces are in summery fabrics, it has been a little challenging.  Thankfully, the weather was so warm over the weekend that I was able to get away with just a few light layers.  This cheery combination of bright hues works because the small pops of color are balanced out with neutral basics...so it creates just the right amount of interest without being overwhelming.

*My mom is in town visiting & will be staying with us for the next 2 weeks, so I may not respond as quickly as usual to emails or tweets.  But I promise to get back to you as soon as I possibly can - thanks in advance for your understanding!

What I'm wearing:
J. Crew sweater (similar), H&M coat (similar here or here), Forever 21 jeans (similar) & scarf (similar), Madewell belt (similar), ALDO pumps (on sale here), c/o Olivia & Joy bag (here), Tobi ring (here), Nails: OPI A Roll in the Hague, Lips: Revlon Colorburst Coral

Winter Florals

I had a reader write me last week asking for some creative layering tips for the office.  When I used to work full-time (before I had kids), I remember how unbelievably cold our building was and some days I would end up wearing my wool overcoat at my desk all day in an effort to stay warm.  A better solution by far is this silky blouse + textured sweater + blazer combination - it works equally well with cropped trousers or a skirt & strikes just the right balance between cozy and polished.

What I'm wearing:
Zara blouse (similar), Old Navy sweater (here), H&M blazer (similar here or here), Kenar pants (via Marshall's; similar here or here), Guess pumps (similar), Merona clutch (on sale here), c/o Outrage Fashion necklace (here), c/o Wren & Glory ring (here), Simply Vera Vera Wang aviators (similar), Lips: L'Oreal Colour Riche Fairest Nude

Outerwear Essentials

When it comes to this time of year, it can be difficult to bundle up while still looking chic.  When I moved to New York, one of the first friends I made told me, "On the coldest days, all that matters is having cute outerwear because no one will see anything else."  And I quickly learned how right she was!  So I have put together three affordable looks below using the most essential winter pieces...and I included different styles since I know not everyone lives in a snowy climate.  Now is a great time to buy these types of items since most stores have them marked down to try & make room for spring arrivals.

THREE: ASOS Parka* // Reebok Snood // Eddie Bauer Boots // MICHAEL Michael Kors Gloves
