Easy Breezy

In addition to it being unusually hot this week, the humidity was pretty intense, which made it necessary to wear my lightest & loosest pieces possible to stay comfortable.  Even my usual arm party felt too heavy & restricting in the heat, so it was just the right time to try out my new accessories from Lydali - this thin hammered cuff & adorable striped clutch are perfect for summer!  I always love discovering new sites that have a interesting story, which is why I was instantly drawn to their handcrafted accessories & unique jewelry.  Even better, everything is ethically sourced & affordably priced - check out my Shelf of more favorite items from their site below!

Sweet Mint

It's no secret that I love a good peplum top - it is one trend that I honestly hope sticks around for a while because it's so flattering & feminine.  Though I styled mine with denim here, this would be the ideal piece to pair with a pencil skirt or cropped trousers for the office or church.  If you haven't checked out Red Clover yet, now is the perfect time because they have dozens of new arrivals for summer.  I'm loving this embroidered top (so cute with cutoffs), this printed sundress (just add a panama hat & flat sandals) and these colorblock sandals (under $25!).

What I'm wearing:
c/o Red Clover top (here), c/o Old Navy jeans (here), Truth or Dare by Madonna heels (on sale here), Expressions NYC clutch (similar), Bracelets: Forever 21 (here) & Anne Klein (similar), c/o Stella & Dot ring (here), Necklaces: J. Crew (similar) & c/o Christina M. Boutique (here), Lips: Revlon Moon Drops Blase Apricot

Summer Style Glossi

I am so excited to share with you today my very first Glossi!  I first learned about their site during a panel at FABB West and, since then, I've been so anxious to use it.  So I decided to put together a little summer style guide using material from previous posts of mine (some of which you may never have seen!).  Click "view" to open the Glossi and scroll through the pages using the dark gray arrows on each side.  You can also click on any image within the Glossi and it will take you to the original post on my site.  If you're viewing from a mobile device or iPad and you can't pull it up by clicking below, you can open using this link instead.  Let me know your thoughts on this format and what types of guides you'd like to see in the future!

Short Order

Ironically, after stating last week that I am not a big fan of shorts, I've been wearing them an abnormal amount thanks to the heat wave we're experiencing here in NY.  I always prefer a loose & flowy style because they pair equally as well with a slouchy open-knit sweater as they do with sleek tailored pieces.  I decided to dress up this floral pair with an easy tee, structured blazer + edgy necklace for happy hour with my girlfriends.

What I'm wearing:
Mossimo t-shirt (on sale here), H&M blazer (similar here or here), JCPenney shorts (similar herehere or here), Marc Fisher heels (on sale here), ASOS clutch (similar here or here), c/o LoveStylize necklace (under $25! - here),  Olivia Burton watch (similar here or here), Tobi ring (similar), Eyes: Almay Intense I-Color Eyeshadow, Lips: Revlon Lipstick Smoked Peach + Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss Pango Peach

Full Circle

(1/2/3)

I've been gathering loads of inspiration from Pinterest lately and noticed that I have been repeatedly pinning street style images of these full midi-length skirts.  Something about the length & shape is so ladylike & chic, but statement-making & unexpected at the same time.  And I love that they look just as polished with a slouchy knit or basic tee as with a sleeveless blouse or silk cami.  So, I've decided it's time to add at least one of these printed styles to my closet.  Check out the photos above for examples of this style done right (notice the ladylike shoes) & the options below to shop the trend:

All Mixed Up

Mixing prints can be a somewhat tricky trend - in the past, I have played it pretty safe & always included stripes (see previous looks with floralsdots & leopard).  But something about the warmer season has me stepping outside my comfort zone and taking a risk with a busier blend of prints.  Since the colors are the same in these two pieces, the patterns work well together without being too over-the-top.  And I kept the accessories minimal to further simplify the look - my new favorite cuff (under $30) and a fun statement ring that I may not take off all summer long (such a gorgeous color)!

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 top (here) & belt, Gap skirt (on sale here; in tall & petite too!), Guess heels (on sale here), c/o Lemon Stripes cuff (here), c/o Stella & Dot ring (here), Michael Kors bag c/o TJ Maxx (similar), Ray-Ban wayfarers, Nails: Essie Boom Boom Room, Lips: CoverGirl Lip Perfection Enchantress

A Good Sport

Now that school is officially out for summer & the days involve a lot more running around with my kids, it's important for me to be comfortable but still look pulled together.  So I decided to give this "sporty" trend a try - it's a fun mix of preppy & polished, but still casual & practical for my lifestyle.  I honestly never would have thought to wear sneakers with a pencil skirt - but thanks to the fun print on this one, it works as well with dressed-down basics as it does with ankle-strap heels & white blazer for evening.  And this baseball cap is the perfect solution for those too-humid days when my naturally curly hair just won't relax.  What are your thoughts on this sporty trend - have you tried it yet or will you be?  Weigh in below in the comments!

What I'm wearing:
c/o Old Navy t-shirt (on sale here), TinselTown Denim Couture jacket (similar here or here), Helene Berman skirt (here), Xhilaration hat (here), Keds sneakers (on sale here), Pulicati tote (similar), Forever 21 necklace (here), Bracelets: Vintage, c/o Stella & Dot (here) & Gap (similar here or here)

The Summer Stack

Every summer, the friendship bracelet makes its triumphant return.  I've never been patient enough to braid my own & typically prefer a more polished stack anyway.  But, this year's versions may have just changed my mind.  They still give off that same playful vibe, but with a more sophisticated feel.  The addition of crystals, metal chains & colored stones give them wearability from the beach to evening.  And better yet...they're all affordably priced, so you can stock up on as many as you want!  Here are my favorites in a rainbow of colors & for every budget:

Row 2Orelia (on sale!) // Target // Fossil // Chloe + Isabel
Row 3BaubleBar // Blu Bijoux // Chloe + Isabel // Fossil
Row 4Sosie // Mango // Tinley Road // Orelia (on sale!)

For the Birds

I've never been a huge fan of shorts - I find most of them way too short for my comfort and it's nearly impossible to find a flattering cut for my body unless they are a loose, flowy shape.  So I was thrilled when I found this distressed boyfriend style in a slightly slouchy fit & just-right length.  They're easy to throw on with casual basics for the weekend or dress up as I did here with a fun mix of prints and a new bright bag.  {Full disclosure: I ended up changing out of these heels later in the day & into my favorite neutral oxfords for some  afternoon errands.}

What I'm wearing:

20 Under $20

Now that summer is in full swing, I couldn't resist putting together a mix of bold brights & playful prints for this month's edition of TUT.  To be honest, I had a hard time not adding all of them to my cart as I worked on this post. These fun & cheery pieces could be worn alone or together - some combinations I love: the striped shirt + printed shorts or the coral dress + icy blue clutch.  Everything you see here is affordably priced ($20 or below)...so you can stay on-trend & on-budget!

Tropicana

I'm so thrilled to be participating today in the London Times Savvy in Your City summer campaign!  We were each asked to pick a city & share our summer savvy tips...and since we've only lived in NY a short time, I decided to talk about my hometown in Oregon instead.  Portland is such a fun city with so much to offer - there are amazing restaurants in the Pearl District and really great live music downtown (including the best Spanish coffee you've ever tasted at Huber's).  My husband & I had our wedding reception at The Governor Hotel & catered by the in-house Jake's Grill, where the food is to die for!

But, one of our favorite activities for the summer is to get outside of the city limits a bit and visit Yamhill county. Not only are the views of the Willamette valley picturesque, but there are dozens of wineries & quaint shops sprinkled throughout the area...all just a 40-minute drive away from Portland.  You can read more about my favorite places to visit in Oregon wine country here.

I chose this London Times tropical print dress to go along with this feature because it could easily take you from a day of wine-tasting (swap in flat sandals & cargo jacket, if it's breezy) to dinner in the city (how I styled it here).  I love that the slinky lightweight fabric is so comfortable, but the print & shape make it sophisticated enough for evening.  It would be equally perfect to wear to a beach wedding or a friend's summer soirĂ©e.

What I'm wearing:
c/o London Times dress (here; 20% off with code LT20), Windsor heels (here), ASOS clutch (similar here), Target cuff (similar) & belt (on sale here), Etsy ring (here), Nails: Love & Beauty Periwinkle Shimmer

Recent Purchases

I went on a spending freeze for the month of May and was planning to continue my no-buy commitment through June too...until I discovered PoshMark.  If you're not familiar, it's a downloadable app you can use to resell pieces from your closet that you no longer wear.  I've found it to be so much simpler than eBay because it eliminates the bidding process so you can set the amount you want to make for each item.  For the last few weeks, I've been successfully purging my closet & I used the money I earned from my PoshMark sales to buy the items below.  In addition to what's shown here, I also ordered these denim shorts (recommend sizing down) and this chambray jacket (love!).

Work It Out

When I was in my teens & early twenties, I had a very unhealthy relationship with food and exercise due to an eating disorder I battled for 10 years.  Thankfully, I am fully recovered now and can appreciate exercise for what it does for my body & how it makes me feel.  I know I will never be a size zero because that isn't how I was built (which I'm completely okay with) - I find I'm so much happier when I focus on working out to feel strong rather than doing it to try & reach a goal that isn't attainable for me.

I firmly believe that the best method for regular workouts is to do something you enjoy.  The summer is my favorite time of year because the weather is nice enough to be outdoors and I can vary my workouts much more.  And just as important as it is to do an exercise you love, it's equally crucial to have workout clothes that are comfortable & that you feel good wearing.   I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these Old Navy compression capris, considering that they only cost $17.  The fit is also super-flattering & I love the little color pop detail on the leg.  Plus the cropped length is just right for this time of year...and they come in tall & petite sizes too!

We headed to the local high school track for a little family exercise session to show that you don't have to pay for a gym membership to get a great workout.  I kept it completely real for this post - not one stitch of makeup and a messy ponytail...because I tend to break a serious sweat when I exercise!

Nothing beats getting a hug from this guy at the end of my run!

What I'm wearing:
Nike tank top (similar here or here), c/o Old Navy pants (here), Snozu jacket via TJ Maxx (similar), Nike shoes via eBay (check listings here or similar here), gifted Nike Fuel Band (from my sweet friend Sharon - here)
