RetailMeNot Fall Fashion Challenge

Today I'm excited to be participating in the RetailMeNot Fall Fashion Challenge, along with some other fabulous bloggers!  We were each gifted $150 to spend and were asked to purchase pieces (based on the fall trend assigned to us) & mix them with items we already owned to create 3 looks for work, weekend & evening.  I couldn't have been more excited that my trend was leather and I headed straight to RetailMeNot to see what deals I could score using coupon codes from their site.

For the work look, I chose a classic black blazer with just a hint of leather - unless you work in a very creative office environment, it can be hard to pull off leather in the workplace.  This blazer is tailored but with just enough interest (love the cobalt pop under the collar!) to feel modern & slightly edgy.  For weekend, I went with easy casual pieces - a moto jacket is a must have piece for the season and this one actually feels like buttery soft real leather, but cost so much less!  For evening, I went with sophisticated pieces & dressed up this sleek pencil skirt with a textured top & sequin jacket.

What I'm wearing:

Recent Purchases

With the exception of oxblood, I have been having a serious love affair with neutrals lately. And one of my favorite ways to add interest to an all neutral outfit is by mixing different textures together.  The pieces below are items I've recently added to my closet that will strike the right balance without breaking the bank.  The trench coat was definitely a "splurge" for me, but I used the money from an old coat I sold on PoshMark to put towards this purchase.  The fit & quality was so amazing for the price that it was worth every cent!

Plaid, Stripes & Leopard

As we head deeper into the fall & winter months, it goes without saying that perfect fitting skinny jeans are absolute must-haves for the season.  They are easy to dress up, simple enough for weekend wear & fit sleekly under your favorite knee-high riding boots.  But, if you're anything like me, finding some that are both comfortable & flattering can be a real challenge.  After much trial & error, I've discovered a few key things to look for when shopping for your ideal pair (in addition to a good fit):

1) Stretch
Arguably, the most important component in skinny jeans - a good pair will have just the right amount of spandex to pull you in and will hold their shape after several days of wear.  These jeans feel like the denim version of Spanx (in the best way possible) and to prove they won't fall victim to "baggy-knee-syndrome", we took these pictures after I'd worn them all day long.

2) Length
This is crucial for creating a flattering silhouette - the ideal length for wearing with pumps, ankle boots & flats alike is for jeans to hit just above your ankle bone.  This shows off the smallest part of your leg and slims the overall appearance.  Thankfully, this pair comes in regular, short, long, tall & petite so you are guaranteed to find the right inseam for your height!

Print Party

After being horribly sick all last week, I am so thankful to finally be feeling better - I couldn't have been more excited to get out of the house for a brunch date with my husband yesterday.  I decided to dress up a bit more than usual, mainly because I couldn't wait to wear this skirt that I just scored on eBay!  And I was pleased to see how perfectly it paired with this LOFT jacket I had from last year.  Since the mixed prints make enough of an impact on their own, I opted for delicate layered necklaces, which I have a feeling I'll be wearing quite often this season (so much more comfortable under a wool coat than a heavy statement piece).

 What I'm wearing:

20 Under $20

I can't seem to get enough of neutral tones, fun prints & oxblood accents for fall...and this post proves it.  I'm fairly convinced we all need a stylish umbrella to carry us through the rainy season, a chic baseball hat for those bad hair days & a pair of statement earrings that will dress up casual basics.  Here are some of my favorite finds for the season, all $20 or less (and many with free shipping too)!

9) Old Navy Sueded Cap Toe Flats (also in gray, cobalt & plum) // 10) Gabriella Rocha Rue Heart Print Scarf
13) Forever 21 Heirloom Tassel Necklace // 14) Mango Two-Tone Shirt (also in cream/navy)

Dotted & Bow-Tied

Our weather was strangely temperamental last week - in the low 50's one day and in the high 80's the next...which made me thankful that I hadn't yet packed away my shorts into storage.  Since this trouser pair has a dressier feel to them, they are ideal for pairing with sweaters & blazers throughout the season (I'll throw on a pair of tights underneath when the weather gets colder).

And since a mustard blazer has been on my wish list for quite some time, I was thrilled to find this style from one of my favorite sponsors.  Red Clover is a boutique located in the downtown historic district of Savannah, GA - the cutest little shop to pop into if you live in the area!  They also have a carefully curated selection of items in their online store, featuring lots of indie labels & emerging designers.  I'm currently loving this printed blousethis perfect peplum top & this unique statement necklace - and the best part is that everything is affordably priced!

Put a Ring on It

Images: 1 / 2 / 3  / 4
One of the easiest & most affordable runway trends that I plan on adopting for fall is wearing multiple rings at the same time.  Similar to the arm party, but more practical for fall since the wearing of long-sleeve sweaters & coats makes stacking bracelets a bit of a challenge.  This look is also easier to pull off for those of you who work in an office & don't enjoy the clanging of bracelets against your desk when you type.  Whether you choose identical rings for a sleek monochrome vibe (as seen top right) or whether you prefer to mix different metals, shapes & textures for an eclectic feel, I've rounded up my top budget-friendly picks to help you find your favorites!

Fall Trends with Lulu*s ~ Part 3

This is my final post in the fall series with LuLu*s and today we're tackling the sporty trend.  Slouchy & track-style pants are totally in for the season, which is a major bonus for those of us who crave comfortable pieces that still look stylish!  I personally like to add a heel when wearing looser-fitting pants because it elongates the leg line & adds a feminine touch.  These pants have such a modern feel & I love the faux leather detailing on the side.  I chose to pair them with more tailored pieces to balance out the sporty vibe, but you could just as easily wear them with a graphic tee & leather jacket for a cool weekend look.

I hope you've enjoyed this week's posts & have gotten some good ideas for how to style these new trends with pieces you already own.  Thanks so much to LuLu*s for partnering with me!

Steals Under $30

Since I've restricted myself to only spending the money I make from PoshMark sales, I have been much more selective about what I buy lately.  And because of this, I've also been tirelessly searching for the best deals to make my dollars stretch as far as possible.  So this month's edition of SUT is a mix of pieces that I'm really loving right now in rich colors, soft fabrics and, of course, a little sparkle.  Everything you see here is $30 or less!

Fall Trends with Lulu*s ~ Part 2

For my second look with LuLu*s, I chose to focus on leather.  In my opinion, everyone should have a little leather jacket for the season - it adds just the right amount of edge to classic pieces & instantly makes any outfit cooler.  I love this vegan style because it's an affordable option & it doesn't have the overtly tough feel of a moto jacket.  Plus, it's slightly easier to dress up since it fits more like a blazer.  This would be perfect for those of you who live in warmer climates because it's a thinner material, which gives you a versatile layer without adding bulk.  I would also pair this with a button-down silk blouse, a flowy printed mini & ankle boots for a more dressed-up look.

What I'm wearing:
Ark & Co. Vegan Leather Blazer c/o LuLu*s, J. Crew Tweed Front Tee (on sale + an extra 20% off & free shipping!), c/o Old Navy The Rockstar Skinny Jeans (under $18!), Guess pumps (similar), Mossimo bag (similar), Target earrings (similar), c/o T+J Designs cuff (similar), Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Cherish
