Two Thousand Thirteen

Though the past year brought difficult personal challenges, it was also full of unforgettable memories & rich blessings.  I have grown & learned so much - I'm eagerly & hopefully anticipating what the next year will bring.

First & foremost, I am thankful beyond words for a husband who is an amazing business partner, talented photographer & my biggest fan.  This site wouldn't even exist if it weren't for his incredible support - he has cheered me on when I thought I couldn't keep going, challenged me when I needed a push & let me cry on his shoulder when I felt overwhelmed.  Thank you, Ryan, for selflessly giving so much of yourself & encouraging me to pursue my dreams.

Second, I am so humbled & grateful for everyone who has supported this site by visiting & commenting daily - you are the reason the wheels keep turning!  Thank you to my wonderful sponsors for collaborating with me to bring affordable & quality products to my readers.  And thank you to my agency for managing so much behind the scenes & making my life a hundred times easier (Vicki, you're the best!).

I feel so blessed to be able to do something that I love and to have the chance to interact with other extraordinary women every day.  I truly value your advice, remarks & insights so if there is something you'd like to see more of in 2014, please let me know!  I will always do my best to tailor the content on PPF to be as helpful as possible for my readers.  Thank you again for making 2013 a great one - may the coming year bring you lots of joy & happiness!

Perfect Pairings: Sequins

With New Year's Eve just around the corner, I thought it was only fitting to focus on glam pieces for this month's edition.  I've tracked down the most affordable sequinned finds from dresses & skirts to jackets & tops.  And I've styled some of my favorites into 2 perfectly festive looks, proving that sequins don't have to be reserved only for special occasions.  Everything here is under $75 so it's a great time to shop for something sparkly to add to your wardrobe!

Nothing New

This is another completely remixed outfit using pieces I've previously worn here on the blog - I've been doing this more & more lately and it's really helped me look at my wardrobe in a completely different way.  For example, I had no idea how much use I would get out of this leather vest when I first purchased it in the fall, but it is such a great layering piece (see previous looks here and here).  If you live somewhere that's too warm for a full leather jacket or wool coat, it would be an ideal option to add more interest & a little edge to your outfits!

Soft Emerald

I was thrilled that the weather warmed up considerably over the weekend (here in NY, when it hits 50 degrees in the winter, people start pulling out their shorts).  So I took full advantage by avoiding the layers & heavy coat that I'll undoubtedly have to wear again later this week when the snow returns.  This green fuzzy cardigan is such a fun & unique piece - I've worn it with a t-shirt & jeans for the weekend and thrown over a silky dress for date night.  But, this time I decided to mix it up a bit and wear with one of my favorite skirts.  It's an unexpected pairing of hues (emerald + blush), but one that works surprisingly well.

I've had so much fun dressing up & sharing my festive party looks with you this season (see previous outfits here and here).  I'll be taking the next few days off to enjoy Christmas break with my family - I hope you all have a wonderful & very happy holidays!

Look for Less: B&W

I fell in love with this gorgeous Tibi drop-waist dress when I saw Olivia Palermo wearing it during London Fashion Week - and I was planning on stalking it until the price fell within my budget range.  But, unfortunately it sold out before I had the chance to snatch it up on sale.  So instead, I decided to recreate her all black-and-white look using affordable separates.  This proves that you don't have to spend a fortune to look chic!

Joe Fresh Skirt - $28.99

Holiday Sparkle

Since I have cut back on purchases this year (only using money made from PoshMark sales), I am trying to focus on buying items that are not only versatile, but also really special & unique.  This outfit is made up of two such pieces - a tweed top with sequin stripes that works just as well with jeans as it does dressed up + a feminine faux leather skirt in an unexpected hue that I can wear now & throughout the spring/summer.  I'm just thankful that our weather warmed up enough this week so I could wear these to a friend's holiday party (without tights)!

Christmas Wishes

One of the rules I have about making wish lists for birthdays & holidays is that they have to be pieces I wouldn't normally buy for myself.  Which usually means they are out of my budget & considered splurge items.  I've made a few exceptions this year & found some things I really love that are affordable too (read: if Santa doesn't bring them, I might just snatch them up for myself!).  Here's what I'm wishing for this Christmas:

10) J. Crew Sequin Skirt (on sale!)
11) Mango Quilted Moto Jacket (under $60!)

Wardrobe Remix

One of my resolutions for the new year is to get more creative with remixing my wardrobe & reusing pieces in different combinations.  So I decided to start a little early to help get myself into the habit.  I took the sweater from this post, paired it with this printed skirt from last summer & topped it off with my favorite moto jacket from early fall.  I even dug deep into storage and pulled out this clutch from last year to add a fun pop of color.  Sometimes shopping your own closet is the best therapy...and it's free!

Party Pants

With party season in full swing, it can be a bit stressful trying to plan outfits for all the events that this time of year brings.  So, instead of reaching for my usual LBD, I'm challenging myself to branch out a bit & choose unexpected pairings that will keep me warm but still look chic (who wants to wear a dress when it's less than 20 degrees out?!). These metallic trousers look so luxe and the fit is absolutely perfect - easy to move around in & ideal for pairing with winter pastels.  To further prove their versatility, I've included two other ways to style them below (great for New Years Eve too)!

Need more ideas for holiday ensembles other than that same party dress you've worn for years?  Try a sophisticated take on the modern tuxedo with this embellished blouse, a tailored blazerslim pants & stilettos.  Or if you're the hostess and need to be comfortable while working in the kitchen & serving guests, go with a cozy sweater, pleated maxi skirt & these sparkly flats.

Seeing Spots

With the stress of the upcoming holiday & an ever-growing to do list, my immune system has taken quite a hit & I haven't been feeling 100% this week.  So, on those mornings when I feel sluggish but don't have the luxury of resting in bed, my solution is to get a little more dressed up than usual (even if I'm just running errands or grabbing coffee with my husband).  It helps me look more polished & pulled-together than I actually feel and lifts my spirits just enough to get me through the tasks I need to accomplish.

This dainty gold jewelry is perfect for wearing everyday because it doesn't overpower an already bold look & it goes with everything.  Lilac Bijoux has an amazing selection of gorgeous & affordable jewelry, including designs by Loren Hope, Marlyn Schiff & Betty Carre.  They are graciously offering an exclusive discount for PPF readers - just use code PPF20 at checkout to get 20% off any of the pieces on their site now through December 15th!
