I don't know what it is about coming back from vacation that makes even the simplest daily activity suddenly seem like a daunting task. Needless to say, I have not been on my A game this week - between trying to decorate the house for Christmas, prepare for my daughter's birthday party next weekend and get all my holiday shopping done, I've felt like a disheveled mess. In the midst of it all, I've had to just stop & remind myself that it's completely okay.
It's okay to let that laundry pile sit for another day so I can read my son "just one more" book at bedtime. It's okay if those crumbs on the table aren't immediately swept away after each family meal. It's okay to snuggle in bed with my husband a little longer in the morning...even if it means that I don't have time to iron my clothes. All these little traces of imperfections leave behind a footprint of love; they tell a story of time well-spent and a life that is focused on what really matters. This holiday season, let's give ourselves permission to ignore the endless to-do list in our heads; to quiet the voice that says we have to always keep up appearances...and instead let's focus on cherishing what is lasting, pricelessly valuable & right in front of us every single day.
