My Monthly Edit

READING
I've admitted here before that I'm a recovering perfectionist and, in all honesty, this is still a daily battle for me.  It's something I have to consciously fight against and I'm actively learning to re-train my thoughts in a healthier manner.  This article provides some great insights into how perfectionism actually prevents us from being our best + gives solid tips for changing those habits so we can be more productive & ultimately at peace with ourselves.

WEARING
In addition to switching my closet over from summer to fall, I also went through my beauty cabinet and organized my makeup.  This included throwing out several eye shadows & lipsticks that were far too old to keep using (see this handy chart for product shelf life).  Once completed, I realized that I needed to stock up on new eye shadows that I could wear on a daily basis.  This smoky palette seemed like the best bang for my buck and, unlike other sets I've purchased in the past, I will actually use every single color.  If you're in the market for something a little lighter, this neutral palette is just as good.

MAKING
If you're like me, you take tons of pictures with your phone and never actually do anything with them.  Because we had such an eventful summer this year, I wanted a way to capture all of the memories we made.  Technically I didn't make this myself, but I did select the images I wanted, customized the layout & ordered a softcover photo book for my kids.  They loved it so much that I plan on creating one every year from now on to remember our summer adventures together as a family.

CRAVING
I have a fairly comprehensive collection of fall & winter outerwear so the only reason for adding more to my closet is when I come across something vastly different from the other pieces I own.  This shearling coat is the epitome of warmth and the belted waist gives it a chic, modern feel that's ideal for pairing with jeans & boots this season. Though at full price, it's a bit out of my budget, starting tomorrow you can get 25% off your purchase with code LABOR2515 + free shipping on orders over $35.

THINKING
I recently booked my travel for NYFW and, while I have some fun events & meetings planned, what I'm most excited for is that Alyson is rooming with me and we get to enjoy a few days together in the city.  We haven't seen each other in person since 2012, but have stayed close over the years.  The older I get, the more I find how rare true friendships are - the kind where you can talk about anything & not feel judged; where you're accepted unconditionally and where your successes are celebrated.  So, even if ours is one that's destined to be long distance, it only makes me all the more grateful for the time we do get to spend & I plan on cherishing every single second.

LOVING
With Labor Day weekend on the horizon, many retailers are launching their holiday sales a little early...including one of my favorite sites for affordable jewelry.  BaubleBar has marked down dozens of items at 50-60% off, plus they offer free shipping & free returns.  I just added this crystal necklace to my cart, along with this pearl ear cuff, these tasseled drops & this gold collar.  The sale runs now through Monday, September 7th and is a great chance to score some pretty pieces for less!
