Simple Cat Eye

Today is my second & final post partnering with Walgreens to share my favorite wearable beauty trends from NYFW (see last month's post here).  For their fall/winter collections, Oscar de la Renta & John Galliano both sent models down the runway with a fresh face & simple cat eye, which really appealed to me for its pretty simplicity.  So often a cat eye is paired with matte skin & a bold red lip, but I loved the concept of balancing out the harsher eye-liner with soft, glowing skin.  Here's how you can re-create this look at home in four simple steps:

Step 1: After applying my foundation, I used the Boots Botanics Radiance Highlighter to help brighten my under-eye area.  I like this formula because it has a light-yellow undertone, which cancels out the purplish-blue of my dark circles + the creamy formula isn't drying like others I've tried.

Step 2: When creating a cat eye with liquid liner, I've found that it helps to steady your arm by resting your elbow on the edge of your counter top.  I also prefer to make small dots in between my lashes with the tip of the eyeliner and then "connect the dots" into one smooth line instead of drawing it freehand.  This precise pointed brush is ideal for creating the perfect winged tip and even though it looks black from a distance, the shade is actually a darkened emerald with a subtle sparkle that catches the light in a flattering way.

Step 3: I talked about this mascara in my previous post (here) and I've really fallen in love with the formula.  The big fluffy brush creates full voluminous lashes in just one coat.  If you prefer, you can leave your bottom lashes bare for this look, but I personally like to add mascara to mine, especially since I won't be using liner on the bottom.  I feel that it creates a more balanced look this way.  Alternately, you could try using a light reflecting powder on your lower lash line to create even more of an eye-opening effect (I like Colour Prevails Eye Shimmer in Rose Gold).

Step 4: I love beauty products that are multi-purpose & this oil is great for wearing as a base under your makeup to help hydrate skin...but I also love to pat a little bit on top of my cheekbones to help finish this look & give my cheeks a dewy, youthful glow.  A little goes a long way, so start with just a small drop and add more as needed.
