Burgundy Crush

Even though I tend to wear mostly neutrals in the winter months, burgundy is one color that I am always drawn to. It works on literally every skin tone and it's easy to mix with other shades in my closet (camel, blush & navy are my favorite pairings).  Today I'm sharing two new looks, featuring this rich hue, from JCPenney's new Belle + Sky line (first introduced here) - one outfit that's polished casual and another that's evening-ready.  Note: when we photographed these looks, both pieces ended up looking more purple in the pictures, but they are more of a deep burgundy, as shown in the images on JCPenney's site.

Turtlenecks are a huge trend for the season that we saw all across the runways - it's a style that's easy to embrace for its practicality in the cold temperatures.  I also find that they are a great layering piece - try one underneath a plaid button-down shirt, with your favorite vest or tucked into a skirt.  The longer length and ribbed knit of this one make it ultra-flattering - you can wear it alone or layer a white boyfriend shirt underneath to add a little interest. I was so excited when I found these knee-high boots - I can't get over how high-end they look for being under $50! There are limited sizes left online, so if you don't see yours available, I recommend calling your local store.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Liz Claiborne Toggle Coat (wearing a Small), c/o Belle + Sky Tunic Sweater (wearing an XS),
c/o Stylus Skinny Jeans (wearing size 2), c/o Liz Claiborne Sophier Boots

I've mentioned before how I don't own a lot of dresses - mainly because my proportions are smaller on top than on bottom, which means I either have to buy a fit & flare style or purchase something on sale, knowing that I will also have to pay to have it tailored. This dress (now under $30!) completely exceeded my expectations - the stretchy knit is so complimentary to curves, without being too clingy, and the twist detail on the side adds just the right amount of interest.  I love the subtle shimmer in the fabric, which makes it easy to dress up for evening.  And, because it's sleeveless, I'll be able to wear it well into the spring with a trench coat & strappy sandals.
