Tights Weather

So many of you have asked recently about how to pull off wearing dresses or skirts in the cold weather months.  I personally am not a big fan of tights...but I recognize that they are a necessary evil & are sometimes absolutely non-negotiable based on the freezing temperatures.  When shopping for tights, it's important to look at the denier to ensure you're purchasing the right kind: sheer= 10-20 denier / semi-opaque= 25-35 denier / opaque= 40+ denier.  I exclusively wear opaque tights in the winter because they are the warmest & most durable option.  I always purchase tights with shapewear built-in because they do double-duty (check the label for words like control-top, contour or shaping).

I personally prefer to keep things simple by matching my tights to my footwear - it just looks more sleek & I find that it has a leg-lengthening effect.  However, neutral tights also work well with taupe, cognac or bordeaux shoes (see examples here or here).  This outfit is the perfect example of how you can take a flowy skirt and make it seasonally appropriate by adding a warm pair of tights & pairing it with a chunky knit sweater and lace-up booties.  This black suede moto jacket balances out the feminine layers of this skirt (last seen here) and provides just the right amount of edge.

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 jacket (similar in grey, black, tan or navy), Zara sweater (similar here or here),
Reiss skirt (similar or solid color option here), c/o Mossimo booties (similar here or here),
Spanx tights, Ann Taylor bag (similar here or here), Nadri earrings (similar for less here),
