My Monthly Edit

READING
I came across this post a few weeks back and I thought it provided a great example of a short list of items you should own as you build a complete & versatile closet.  Quite a few of you have commented recently about wanting to create a capsule wardrobe and I personally think all of these pieces would be great to include.  There are a few items I would add to this list like a printed flowy dress for spring & summer, a classic leather watch and one or two solid camisoles for layering. (one of my favorite essentials pictured above: J. Crew Striped Sweater)

WEARING
One of the really fun parts of my job is getting to test makeup & skincare samples that are sent to me.  It's pretty rare that I love the products enough to include them permanently in my regular routine...but this CC cream & under-eye concealer completely blew me away.  After one day of wearing them, I instantly switched from the foundation I was previously using & I've been exclusively wearing these ever since.  I would say it's more of a medium coverage, but it goes on so smooth and keeps my skin dewy throughout the day.  I can't say enough good things about this concealer, which was a game-changer for my dark circles.  It comes out of the tube a little tacky, but the warmth of your fingers will soften it up and make it easier to apply.  To set the concealer, I use this brightening powder, which I can't live without!  Note: I wear Light in both the CC Cream & concealer.

THINKING
I was pretty resistant to this trend at first because it reminded me too much of an awkward phase I went through in the 90's.  But, after seeing the modern interpretation of chokers, I'm starting to come around and am now thinking about embracing this trend for spring.  I particularly love the idea of these tied string versions, which is a super-simple DIY that I plan on recreating.  But I also just ordered this dainty one, which will be an easy everyday option & will also work well layered with some of my longer necklaces.

LOVING
It's no secret that Old Navy has been killing it this season & the latest batch of new arrivals are no exception.  I was happy to see they brought back their popular lace-up sandals again this year (which so many of you bought & loved) and there are dozens of pretty spring dresses that I've got my eye on (all 40% off today only w/ code CUTEDRESS). I quickly scooped up these sleek slides, which have the coolest fringe detail that gives them a modern feel.  They also come in a neutral ivory that would be perfect for taking to the beach!

MAKING
Apparently I have been indulging in a few too many paleo baked goods over the last few months because when I pulled my spring clothes out of storage, everything was a little bit snug on me.  So, to get back on track, I'm starting Whole30 today and I also plan on being more dedicated to hitting the gym every day.  This recipe for Mango Chicken with Coconut Cauliflower Rice is at the top of my list for this week's menu - the mix of flavors is so delicious and it makes enough to have for leftovers the next day.  If any of you have done Whole30 before & have recipes that you swear by, I'd love to hear about them, so please share in the comments below!

CRAVING
Last week I had to make a trip to the mall to pick up a few spring clothes for my kids, who are both suddenly growing like weeds!  As I was leaving, I decided to pop into Banana Republic to check out their new arrivals.  Even though I was on my spending freeze at the time & just browsing, I knew that the Friends & Family sale was coming up so I wanted to scope out a few pieces ahead of time.  This suede bag instantly caught my eye & it's even more gorgeous in person, plus it's the ideal smaller size that I've been favoring lately.  I'm also loving this striped sweater & this scalloped dress.  For those who are interested, the Friends & Family sale runs March 10th-13th and you can get 50% off 5 regular-priced items in stores & online (some exclusions apply).
