Summer Layering

I want to start off today by thanking all of you for the wonderful response to yesterday's post.  I was so thrilled to read through all the comments and emails I received and to hear your own stories of learning to love your hair.  I feel so grateful to have such wonderful readers who willingly & enthusiastically engage on the issues that matter most.  I'm truly honored that you take the time to read & share your thoughts with me.

We had an unseasonably cool day earlier this week...but I didn't feel like pulling out my jeans, so I decided to try layering a sweater over a dress instead.  It added another dimension of texture to the look and instantly transformed the dress.  I bought this dress earlier in the season because I loved the swingy relaxed shape & the fun fringe hem (it also comes in chambray & a pretty print).

The trick to layering in this way is to make sure that the sweater is slightly cropped so you keep your proportions in check (see how I've done this with different colored pieces here).  You could also add a belt to this if you wanted a little more definition in the waist.  This was such a comfortable easy day look (even if it seemed a little strange to be wearing all black in June).

What I'm wearing:
Mango Sweater (similar here or here; love this short-sleeve style),
Mossimo Dress (also in black/white print & chambray), c/o Old Navy Sandals (similar here or here),
Zara Bag (similar here or here), Pilgrim Earrings, Vintage Ring (similar), Forever 21 Necklace (similar),
Bracelets: Forever 21 & Vintage (similar)
