Fall Trends To Try

Today is the first post in a new series where I'll be breaking down a few of my favorite fall trends that I plan on incorporating into my wardrobe for the coming season.  There are 3 rules that I follow when it comes to adopting trends: 1) it has to be something I love; 2) it has to suit my personal style & flatter my shape; 3) it has to make sense for my lifestyle.  Sticking to these guidelines ensures that I'm not wasting my money on pieces I'll only wear once or twice. If you have some extra time, it's worth searching thrift or vintage shops for some of these styles - not only will they be considerably cheaper, but you'll also end up with a unique item that you won't see your neighbor wearing! Here are the first three trends I'm loving for fall + some affordable options:

1) VELVET
I love the luxurious feel that this texture brings to a look & I have a black velvet camisole that I can't wait to layer under a cozy cardigan, wrap sweater or wool blazer.  I plan on embracing this trend by using it small doses with my accessories, which makes it much more practical & wearable.

Slingback Pumps (also in pink) // Quilted Bag // Choker Necklace (love this one too) // Wrap Top

2) NECK SCARVES
This trend is still going strong, but the latest versions have rich colorful prints & silky textures.  These are gorgeous when simply paired with a solid blouse or a fine-knit sweater (just bought this crewneck in two colors - the fit is so flattering!)

3) BLOCK HEELS
I breathed a big sigh of relief when I discovered that block heel pumps were here to stay.  These are so much more comfortable than their stiletto counterparts...but just as chic.  And they are incredibly versatile - you can wear them with any of your fall dresses, pants, skirts or denim.

Burgundy Suede (also in black & tan) // Wine Croc (also in black) // Snake Print
Cognac Suede (also in black) // Strappy Slingback // Cap Toe
