Autumn Layers

I'm so excited to share with you some photos from an apple-picking adventure that Abbey & I went on last week + two fall looks that we love. For those who are new to my site, Abbey is my part-time editorial assistant who helps research affordable fashion, develop new content ideas & she also creates the Weekly Top Finds posts featured here every Saturday.  She's been with me for over a year (first introduced here) and I honestly don't know how I ever got by without her.  She will be graduating from college next spring and will most likely move on to do amazing things - I'm secretly hoping that whatever job she takes will allow me to keep her for a little while longer because there's no one who could fill her shoes!

I love getting the chance to include her in posts because her personal style is slightly different than mine & I think it's important to share a perspective other than my own from time to time.  We went on a shopping trip to Old Navy with the goal of putting together casual layered looks using pieces that could be re-worn multiple ways.  This is a great time to stock up on fall staples because they are having an amazing sale - you can get 30% off your purchase or 40% off when you use your Old Navy card & code THANKYOU + you'll earn $10 in Super Cash for every $25 you spend!  Read on for more details about why we chose the outfits we're wearing here + more styling tips.

From Abbey: I have been searching for a pair of colored skinnies all season and these have the perfect blend of stretch & structure.  I also plan to dress them up with a cold-shoulder blouse & leopard pumps for date night.  I can't believe I didn't own a quilted vest before - so many I've tried on are too puffy and add unwanted bulk to my upper half, but this one has a flattering fit & slimming shape that's perfect for wearing over sweaters & shirts.  I also picked up this coat, which will be great for bundling up when the weather gets cooler.

Her outfit details:
c/o Old Navy Quilted Vest (wearing a Large; also love this one), c/o Old Navy Plaid Shirt (wearing a Medium),
c/o Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (recommend sizing down), Frye Boots (similar here or here)

The deep green hue of this sweater instantly caught my eye and I was so pleased with the fit (it also comes in berry, gray & oatmeal).  It's a longer length, so you can wear it over faux leather pants or leggings (these are amazing) & it would also look great with a button-down layered underneath.  Everyone needs a soft flannel scarf for the cooler weather - this one has such a pretty mix of colors (it comes in 11 different patterns) - another way I'd wear it is draped over an ivory turtleneck with cropped trousers & pointed flats.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Old Navy Boat-Neck Sweater (wearing an XS), c/o Old Navy Flannel Scarf
c/o Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (true to size), Similar Boots, ASOS Watch (similar)
