My Monthly Edit

Several of you have been asking if I plan to do another shopping freeze this year and I've finally decided that the answer is a resounding yes.  If you're new to my site, this has been an annual tradition of mine and it's something that I've always benefited from.  Last year, I asked several of you to join me and I created style challenges each week to keep us from falling into outfit ruts.  This year, I plan to refrain from shopping for myself during the months of December & January.  Please let me know in the comments below if you're interested in participating with me & if the outfit challenges would be helpful to post here on the blog each week.

Ever since I hit my mid-thirties, I've noticed more significant signs of aging showing up on my face...so I've been doubling-down on my skincare efforts.  My dermatologist recommended this silk pillowcase, which is not only great for your hair, but much more gentle on the skin (especially if you're a stomach/side sleeper like me).  My winter sleepwear was also in desperate need of some updating, so I picked up these pajamas, which are so chic & comfortable that I'm tempted to buy them in another color (they would also make a great holiday gift!).

Because I recently replaced all of my makeup brushes (as mentioned last month), I want to make sure I'm taking really good care of them.  I've previously stored mine in a simple roll-up case, but sometimes the bristles get squished and the brushes end up losing their shape. So, when I came across this brush holder, I knew it would be the perfect solution.  I typically don't like having a very cluttered vanity, but thanks to the brass hardware & marble base, it's equal parts beautiful & functional.  I also love this lipstick holder and, if you're looking for a more complete vanity organizer solution, this one is a great buy.

I've talked before about my struggle with making impulse purchases and several of you have agreed that it's a difficulty for you as well.  Over the years, I've tried to develop a stronger will power in this area but I think it's helpful to have a set of guidelines on hand when shopping to further prevent "accidental" purchases from happening.  The comprehensive set of questions in this article are so good that I wrote them out on two 3x5 cards and put one by my computer & tucked the other one into my wallet so I'll have a constant reminder in front of me when I need it most (like when I'm tempted to pull the trigger on these velvet shoes).

There are few things I love more in the cold weather months than a steaming bowl of soup & I am always looking for new versions to try.  This roasted pumpkin soup is so filling & delicious that you'd never know it's made without the heavy cream & flour.  Danielle's site is one of my favorites for paleo-friendly meals and I've honestly never tried a recipe of hers that wasn't amazing.  I just ordered her latest cookbook as an early birthday gift for myself & I cannot wait for it to arrive!

I keep my jewelry choices fairly minimal this time of year, but I like finding simple pieces that add just enough sparkle to my everyday looks.  This pretty layered necklace is perfect for wearing with cozy sweaters & flowy blouses alike because the shorter length makes it versatile for almost any neckline.  More of my everyday jewelry favorites include these gold studsthis horn pendant and these opal stacking rings.
