Holiday Trends

Trends can be tricky to navigate because they don't always work for everyone.  Even if there is one that you love, it can be intimidating to try.  I always recommend selecting one or two to embrace each season that interest you & fit within your own personal style.  Some of my favorite trends for winter also happen to be styles that can quickly go over-the-top.  So, today I'm sharing two new looks with you & talking about how to incorporate ruffles, velvet & metallics into your wardrobe in a chic, modern way.

I love the idea of going with a bold color for the holidays - choosing something that isn't black or red is slightly unexpected.  This ruffle-trim shift dress is so comfortable and easy to move around in, which makes it the perfect choice for holiday parties (plus it's fully lined!).  It comes in three different colors, but I was instantly drawn to this gorgeous fuchsia hue.  I like that it's long-sleeved so I won't freeze walking to & from the car and it also comes in petite & tall sizing so you can find the length that works best for your height.  I would style this for daytime with a black faux fur vest, tights & boots.  Another long-sleeved dress that I tried on & loved was this red swing style - it's really flattering & would nicely complement any shape.

Velvet & metallics are another big trend for the season & they can be pulled off beautifully when you embrace them in small doses.  This velvet v-neck cami is an easy layering piece that you can wear under blazers, tucked into a party skirt or under a cozy cardigan with jeans.  I like that it has a relaxed fit & slightly longer length, which makes it super-flattering.  This jacquard jacket immediately caught my eye when I was shopping - it's such a stand-out piece and it looks much more expensive that the price suggests.  It also comes in a more subtle navy/black print, if the gold is too flashy for your taste (it's available in tall & petite too!).  Other velvet styles I'm loving include these pointed pumps, this swing dress & these skinny jeans.
