My Monthly Edit

Maybe it's my version of a mid-life crisis, but I've been fantasizing about getting another ear piercing.  I already have a second hole on each side, but I love the idea of having another one higher up so you can create an "ear stack" with dainty earrings that give off a cool modern vibe.  My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I may or may not be stocking up on tiny stud sets in anticipation of this event - currently in my cart is this pavé trio, this ear crawler duo & these dainty hoops.

My friend Jenny kept raving about this new Monat Dry Shampoo, so when she offered to share a sample with me, I told her I would give it a try.  I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical because I have been really loyal to Living Proof Perfect Hair Day & haven't found any other product that works as well on my hair.  But, this blew my old favorite out of the water - it didn't leave a gritty residue or white streaks and not only did it absorb oil, but somehow it magically made my hair feel silky soft (and this was on day 3)!  I also love that their products are free of phthalates, sulfates, parabens, colors & fragrances.

This can be a tough season for many people, which is why we always try to give back a little extra during the holiday months.  So, in addition to donating winter outerwear to our local coat drive, we are creating more "blessing bags" to hand out.  We simply fill a large Ziploc bag with items like deodorant, shampoo, sanitizing wipes, tissues, Chapstick, thermal socks, feminine products, a knit hat & gloves, small first aid kit, water bottle, comb, Kind Bars & Fruit Leather and a toothbrush/toothpaste.  Then we stash them in our car and we have something readily available to give when we are driving around & see someone in need.

I've always loved the idea of embellished collars that you can add to sweaters or dresses to give them a one-of-a-kind feel.  So when I came across these lace cuffs, I thought they were so genius!  It's a great way to make a basic top feel more sophisticated with the addition of chic lace bell-sleeves.  I was a little worried they would shift around awkwardly throughout the day, but they stayed perfectly in place and looked as if they were sewn onto the cuff of my favorite wrap sweater. These would also look great with a boatneck top, tweed jacket or sweater dress.

In just two short weeks, my daughter will be turning 13 and I'm somewhat surprised by how nostalgic & emotional I've been as we prepare for this milestone birthday.  As a mom, I feel a tremendous amount of responsibility to help protect her innocence, encourage her independence & give her sound advice for the tough teen years ahead.  It can be daunting to try & narrow down all the things I want her to know before she leaves home.  But, when I came across this article, I felt that it so eloquently put into words everything I have been thinking & feeling.  So I'm keeping this list handy as she enters adolescence in the hopes that I can teach her these lessons in a meaningful way that will stick with her for years to come.

Velvet is a huge trend for the season and, as much as I admire its luxe texture, I've been trying to refrain from investing in it too heavily.  But, as soon as I laid eyes on this gorgeous camisole, it was love at first site.  It has such a flattering feminine shape, which would be perfect for those upcoming holiday parties.  It also comes in cobalt, dark amber or black and is available in tall & petite sizing too!  Other velvet pieces I'm loving right now include this chic LBDthis ruffled topthese tailored trousers & this moto jacket.
