White On White

Other than having to avoid red wine & pasta sauce (because I will inevitably spill on myself), I love the idea of an all-white outfit because it's timeless & chic.  The trick to making a monochromatic work look is to add interest by incorporating different textures.  Wearing pieces that are all the same shade allows you to have some fun with your accessories - a few well-placed pops of color are all you need to really make a statement.  Or you could go graphic with your look by adding contrasting black accents and gold hardware (like this woven clutch & these drop earrings) - even better if you finish the look with a bright red lip!

I actually ordered this skirt online for my daughter, but when it arrived & I saw how cute it was in person, I quickly informed her that we would be "closet-sharing" this particular item (one of the benefits of having a teenager).  I like that both this top & skirt are fully lined - there's nothing more frustrating than trying on a cute white garment only to find that it's see-through.  I also appreciate how comfortable this combination is - even though it's a more dressed-up outfit, the elastic waist & blousy top mean I can comfortably indulge on date night without worry.  Bring on the dessert!

I'm finally getting back into the swing of things after my London trip & I'm excited to be continuing with this weekly series throughout the summer months.  Today I'm sharing a few great sale finds + some affordable styles I've got my eye on.  I've also highlighted the best weekend sales for you below, but be sure to check the Sales Alerts page for a full list of retailers & the current coupon codes you'll need to shop & save!

Macy's is offering 25% off your purchase + free shipping at $49 with code WKND - I'm on the hunt for a 4th of July dress and am trying to decide between this striped shift, this chambray dress or this embroidered option.

Club Monaco has an extra 30% off all sale styles (discount taken at checkout) + free shipping at $150 with code FREESHIP - loving this tasseled scarf & this cold-shoulder top.

Anthropologie just launched their Summer Tag sale - you can get up to 50% off select styles (prices as marked) - how pretty are these turquoise earrings & this eyelet top?!

Side note: If you're looking for some lightweight layering pieces for the beach or those cooler summer evenings, I recommend this cozy pullover (cones in 3 colors & is super soft!) or this striped sweater (a classic!).

Reworked Basics

I've had so much fun partnering with Everlane over the past few months to showcase some of my favorite pieces from their site (see previous posts here, here & here).  What I love about their styles is that everything is so versatile and wearable - all the things I've received from them have been flattering & well-made and these are staples that you can truly wear over and over again.  To prove that point, I decided to re-work some of my top picks to give you some new styling ideas for these classic items.

The last time I wore this striped sweater (here), I styled it in a sophisticated/preppy way.  So I wanted to give it a more modern/casual vibe this time around.  This combination would also be cute paired with white sneakers for the weekend...but honestly, these heels are just as comfortable as flats (I promise!) + they are such a fun vibrant color. If you're on the hunt for more striped summer pieces, check out their new Beach Collection - I already ordered this classic tank & this sweatshirt, which will be perfect for camping!

What I'm wearing:
c/o Everlane Linen Crew Sweater, Vintage Scarf (similar), Joe's Jeans (lighter wash here),
c/o Everlane Day Heel, Forever 21 Bag (similar here or here),
Madewell Earrings (similar), c/o Armani Exchange Watch

When I first featured this tank (here), I gave it a laid-back feel by pairing it with shorts & a denim jacket.  But, because the fabric has a smooth crepe finish, it's ideal for dressing up with more polished pieces.  I also wanted to show it tucked in so you could see how well it works with high-waist bottoms for a more tailored look.  These leather slides are a great affordable dupe for the Hermes Oran Sandals - they're so easy to slip on & go.  They also come in dark brown, black & red - I'd recommend sizing up for a perfect fit.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Everlane High Neck Tank, Ann Taylor Trousers (similar here or here),
c/o Everlane Bridge Sandals, Hat Attack Tote (similar for less here),
Vintage Necklace (similar), Madewell Cuff (similar)

My Monthly Edit

THINKING
As many of you have noticed, I've been trying to get more creative with styling my hair different ways, instead of just wearing it down all the time.  Thanks to my Lupus being in remission, it's grown in length & volume quite a bit since last year.  For the summer months, I love the idea of using a scarf to work into a chic updo for a classic meets retro look.  Some small square options to try that will also work as neck scarves: here, here, here & here (shop Rebecca Minkoff scarves).

WEARING
I'm all about a punchy lip color for the season & this moisturizing lipstick is the prettiest raspberry hue - not too bright & it would be flattering on nearly all skin tones.  If you're not a fan of bright pink, there are other shades in this collection that are just as good (In Love with Ginger, Red Alert & Coral Gard are my favorites).

LOVING
As I've been on a mission to embrace more color, I've noticed a serious lack of yellow in my wardrobe.  I know it can be difficult to pull off, but this eyelet top is a warmer golden hue, which won't wash me out (but would also look great on tan & darker skin tones).   It's currently on sale & ships for free (it also comes in black for a more demure look).  Other eyelet styles that I've got my eye on: this bell-sleeve top, these embroidered shorts, this white skirt, this shift dress & this peplum tee.

USING
Because I have naturally curly hair, I try to give it a break from blow-drying during the warm weather months.  This styling creme is perfect for creating curl separation, definition & shine without weighing hair down.  It has a nice clean scent & a little goes a long way, so I know this tube will last me for a while.  I love it so much that I just ordered more products from this line because they get such great reviews (all paraben, phthalate, sulfate & cruelty-free).

READING
Because my husband & I both work from home, the summers are notoriously difficult for us when it comes to managing the kids' activities and carving out time to interact with them.  We've made a lot of mistakes in this area in the past, so we set out to do things differently this year.  We started by creating a schedule for them that we printed & put on the fridge - this sets clear guidelines for allowable screen time, outdoor play, reading & specific chores...but we also intentionally left room for them to be bored.  This seems like a strange concept, but I've read so many articles lately about the importance of encouraging creativity by creating space for boredom.  This post articulates it well & talks about "minimalist parenting", which is something we are striving for.  Since implementing this, we've already noticed a huge improvement - less arguments between the two of them, more imaginative play & a greater sense of ownership with their household responsibilities.  Side note: this Instagram account is excellent for parenting tips & encouragement.

CRAVING
I've been obsessed with all things cork this season so when I came across these tasseled slides, they went to the top of my wish list.  Based on the reviews, they run small so I'd recommend sizing up - they're currently on sale, but I'm patiently waiting for another price drop before I pull the trigger (these studded sandals by the same brand are equally as cool).  Other cork pieces I love for the season include this watch (similar for less here), this clutch (minaudière option here; tote option here) & these heels (only $25!).

Dressed-Up Denim

Sometimes when we're heading out to a casual family dinner or going to a movie, I know I want to wear jeans, but I also still want to look pulled together.  For those days, I like to have a few tops with interesting details (that work with a regular bra) that I can throw on for a polished but comfortable look.  Today I'm sharing two easy ways to dress up your denim, featuring some tops I picked up recently from Nordstrom Rack (both under $35!).   If you live somewhere that is too hot for jeans, both of these options would work just as well with cut-offs or shorts (like these & these).  I'm also obsessed with these new earrings - they're not too heavy & I love the unique beaded pattern - see more below!

What I'm wearing:
Ro & De Ruffled Lace Top, LOFT Camisole (shop Spanx cami's),
Madewell Jeans (similar here or here),
Necklaces: Anthropologie & Elizabeth Stonec/o InPink Ring
Similar Bracelets (here or here), c/o Fjord Watch (30% off w/ code PENNYPINCHER)

What I'm wearing:
Ro & De Lace Up Peplum Top (shop Wayf tops), Old Navy Jeans (similar here or here),
c/o Steve Madden Sandals
Zara Bag (similar; shop straw bags), c/o Capwell + Co. Bracelets

Camping Recap + Summer Essentials

We just got back from a long weekend camping trip yesterday and we had the most relaxing time.  We were staying in Allegany County, which was absolutely beautiful - we saw all kinds of wildlife, including deer, woodchuck, wild turkeys & the cutest baby black bear (from a safe distance).  We also met some of the nicest people who let us take their golf cart for a spin around the campground & then later took us on a midnight adventure to see thousands of fireflies that had gathered in a nearby field.  We are continually amazed by the generosity & kindness of strangers we encounter when we're camping.  Seriously - if you ever feel like you're losing faith in humanity, just pack your bags & head to the nearest state park!

I decided to do a slightly different post today & share a few photos from our adventures, along with a round-up of our family's essential summer items.  I thought this might be helpful for those of you who love the outdoors like us - these are great whether you're hiking, camping or just heading to the beach or park for the day.  Everything you see here are products we use, love & confidently recommend.

My "getting ready routine" is pretty much non-existent when we camp - I will either wear a hat or put my hair in a braid or ponytail.  I don't even bring any makeup with me so all I need to apply each morning is a good sunscreen & lip balm.  Even though our trailer has a full bathroom, we try to conserve the water in our tank by using the campground facilities as much as possible.  So I use a large toiletry bag to carry all my things to the restroom when I'm showering and/or getting ready for bed.  At night, I wash my face and apply my favorite moisturizer, night serum, eye cream & lash growth serum.

Similar to my beauty routine, I keep my wardrobe really simple when we're camping.  I have a pretty good collection of graphic tees & basic tanks that I bring, along with one or two sweatshirts, jeans, mid-length shorts and a lightweight rain jacket.  I also love cozy pullovers like this & this (great for sitting around the campfire at night).  We each have separate hiking & water shoes that we only use when we're camping - these are on the more expensive side, but totally worth it for how often we use them.

Our campfire essentials include comfortable chairs (we just upgraded to these this year), sticks for roasting hot dogs & marshmallows (these are our favorite) and pie irons, which you can use to make hot sandwiches, breakfast omelettes or pies for dessert.  We bought a few of these and specially marked one for me to use with my gluten-free bread.

We inevitably have an occasional rainy day so we like to prepare by getting the kids lots of books at the library before we leave & stocking the trailer full of our favorite games & indoor activities.  For the most part, we ban electronics when we camp, so instead we will play games together, have a family coloring contest or use a Chat Pack to ask questions around the table.  My kids also love to collect different rocks from the various places we visit and decorate them with acrylic paint to keep in their rooms at home as a special memory from each trip.

Great Lengths

I have quite a few high-waisted & elastic waist summer skirts, so it's nice to have one or two slightly cropped tops to wear with them because it creates a more sleek silhouette than having to tuck a shirt in.  I recommend looking for styles that hit at or just below the belly button so you don't have to worry about revealing any skin as you move around throughout the day (examples here, here & here).  I bought this one right before my trip to Boston & it's quickly become a new favorite.  I'm also in love with this linen fringe satchel - it's slightly larger than the bags I usually carry, but I love the chic neutral color & sophisticated shape.

What I'm wearing:
Rachel Roy Top (also in blush), H&M Skirt (similar here or here),
Vince Camuto Sandals (similar here or here), Cynthia Rowley Satchel
c/o InPink Earrings (love these too), c/o Alexandra Gioia Bracelet
Ann Taylor Rings (similar)
