Spring Ruffles

Several of you have mentioned recently that you love the idea of the ruffled trend for spring, but that you're concerned about pulling it off without looking too girly & juvenile.  I would say it certainly depends on the design of the piece, but it also depends on how you style it.   For example, I tried on this ruffled sweatshirt the other day and, as comfortable as it was, it didn't feel age-appropriate for me & looked more like I had raided my daughter's closet. But, you can't go wrong if you select a top with a more elegant feel & smaller ruffle detail.

To further elevate this trend, my advice is to pair these frilly pieces with more tailored styles to give them a sophisticated look.  For example, I offset the sweetness of this sheer ruffled blouse with sleek flared trousers.  These pants are one of my favorite recent purchases because they are so timelessly chic (and they're under $20!).  I'd also wear them with a striped sweater, a classic chambray shirt or a one-shoulder blouse.

What I'm wearing:
Guess Blouse (similar here, here or here; floral print option here),
LOFT CamisoleH&M Trousers (more options here & here), c/o Schutz Booties (similar),
