Indigo Linen Stripes

I've talked before at length about the importance of investing in timeless wardrobe staples.  I've found that when classics are done well, they become like chameleon pieces...meaning they can be worn in many different ways, depending on your mood or the occasion.  Today I'm sharing two of my new favorite striped pieces for spring & styling them in slightly unexpected ways.

SOPHISTICATED STRIPES

Take this linen striped sweater for example - even though my first instinct was to pair it with my favorite jeans & flats, I decided to challenge myself into taking a different approach - so I dressed it up a bit by layering it over a silk blouse & pairing with structured shorts & studded sandals.  Because this fabric is so lightweight, this would also worked tucked into a denim skirt or throw it on over your swimsuit with cut-offs & flip flops for the beach.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Everlane Sweater (true to size), Similar Silk Shirt, Zara Shorts (similar here or here),
Forever 21 Sandals (similar here or here), Banana Republic Bag
c/o InPink Earrings, c/o Fjord Watch (30% off w/ code PENNYPINCHER),
Nails: Sally Hansen Get Juiced, Lips: Maybelline Fifth Ave Fuchsia

SPORTY STRIPES

If there ever was a perfect tank dress, I think this just might be it.  It has an easy laid-back vibe that's great for the weekend when worn with comfortable sneakers.  This is the type of outfit I'll wear to my son's soccer games or for an afternoon with my kids in the park.  I also wanted to show you how this looked with an open-knit sweater worn on top (one of my favorite layering tricks for those cool spring days).  You could also pair this with a denim vest & flat sandals or dress it up by adding a braided belt at the waist & wearing with neutral wedges.

What I'm wearing:
H&M Sweater (similar here or here), c/o Everlane Dress (recommend sizing down),
Tretorn Mesh Sneakers (comes in 5 colors), American Needle Hat
Olivia Burton Watch, Zara Bag (similar)
