Weekly Top Finds

Just popping in quickly to share some great pieces that are currently on sale at Old Navy - I had posted this on my Facebook page earlier in the week, but wanted to highlight it here as well.  Right now, they are offering 30% off your online order (no code needed) until midnight tonight!  I just ordered this hooded cardigan, these raw-hem jeans & this workout top (also in short-sleeve). Some of you who live in warmer climates mentioned that you're still shopping for summer styles and many of you have committed (like me) to only buy new pieces for next season - so I've included both options here.  A few more notable sales worth mentioning:

Ann Taylor: 40% off everything or 50% off with your AT card using code MUSTSHOP - loving these raffia sandals, this ruffle-sleeve top & these drop earrings.

Anthropologie: 20% off full-price styles (no code needed; discount taken at checkout) - I just ordered these cool earrings & this reversible pullover.  Also, for those of you who are teachers, you can get 20% off full-price items now through September 11th (just sign up here).

LOFT: 50% off everything with code SUMMER17 - sale standouts include this striped top, & my favorite slim pants - also, how flattering does this dress look?!

Nordstrom Sale Try-Ons + Top Picks

For those of you who have been patiently waiting, today is the day that Nordstrom opens their Anniversary Sale to the general public!  I decided to do another post highlighting a few top picks & I'm also sharing my personal reviews for the items I purchased from the sale.  You can view my first post with a comprehensive round-up of the best pieces here.

I tried to approach the sale differently this year - to be honest, I have plenty of fall clothes, so there weren't significant wardrobe gaps that I needed to fill - for that reason, I didn't purchase any booties, handbags or jeans (even though there are many great options included in the sale).  I didn't want to get so blinded by the lowered prices that I impulse purchased too many I tried to be strategic & smart with my shopping.

1) Tie-Front Pullover (comes in 6 colors - wearing an X-Small)
This was one of my absolute favorite purchases - it's unbelievably soft & comfortable & will be great for lounging around the house or for running errands on the weekend.  I'd recommend sizing down for a more fitted look, but if you like your tops a bit more slouchy, you can order your usual size.  (Similar Jeans // Satin Sneakers)

2) Cashmere Vest (also in black, charcoal, navy & camel)
This was definitely a splurge item for me, but I've learned that cashmere is always worth the investment.  This is so soft & really lightweight, so it will be a versatile layering piece this fall - I can see this being my go-to for travel! (Similar Striped Tee // Similar Faux Leather Pants // Similar Pumps)

3) Striped Off-The-Shoulder Top (also in gray, black stripe & black - wearing a Small)
I'm a sucker for stripes and I loved the unusual colors on this top.  It's slightly fitted with a good amount of stretch, so I found it to be really flattering.  I also plan on wearing this with jeans & over-the-knee boots.  Warning: this might not work for petites - it has a generous length through the torso & the sleeves.  (Similar Skirt // Similar Peep-Toe Booties // Earrings)

4) Suede Moto Jacket (also in brick & gray - wearing a Small)
Another splurge item, but I've been wanting a jacket this color for years!  The suede feels so luxurious and the rich cognac hue is perfect for fall.  This one has more of a slim fit compared to most moto jackets (which can be quite boxy), so if you want to layer it over chunkier sweaters, you might want to go up a size. (Similar Sweater // Similar Jeans // Similar Flats)

** Three other items I've ordered but haven't arrived yet are this short-sleeve tee (in black/white stripe), this dress (in burgundy) & this long-sleeve tee (in white/black stripe) - I'm happy to share my thoughts on sizing & quality once they arrive!

These run small, so my usual size (27) was a bit too snug.  I also thought the fabric felt really cheap and it made squeaking noises when I moved around.  For those reasons, they got returned & I decided to order this pair instead, which everyone seems to be raving about!

I have been needing a new pair of black flats, so these looked promising.  They are beautiful in person & the quality did impress me, but they run a bit narrow and I didn't care for the amount of "toe cleavage" they showed.  I really wished these had worked because they are so gorgeous.  If you have a slimmer foot & don't mind less coverage on the top of your foot, I would recommend giving them a try (I found these ran true to size).  Another more classic option are these leather scalloped flats.

I have a hard time finding over-the-knee boots that work for me and these fit amazingly well through the leg.  But because they were so tailored at the ankle, they made my feet look huge & clunky in proportion (I wear a size 9.5).  I also didn't feel that the quality lived up to the price, especially since this is more than I'd usually spend on boots.  If you're looking for a similar option, these get great reviews & are under $90.

ONE (comes in 5 colors) // TWO // THREE // FOUR (also in tan & taupe) // FIVE (also in black) // SIX
SEVEN (also in taupe) // EIGHT (burgundy option here) // NINE // TEN (also in black check)
ELEVEN (also in black, blush & pewter) // TWELVE // THIRTEEN (also in black & brown)
TWENTY // TWENTY-ONE // TWENTY-TWO (also in burgundy & olive) // TWENTY-THREE

Anniversary Sale Beauty & Home

Several of you were requesting to see options from different categories for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so today I'm rounding up my top beauty picks & items for the home.  Tomorrow is when the sale goes live to the public, so if you're not a cardholder, I recommend bookmarking any item(s) you're interested in today so you can quickly add them to your cart & checkout first thing in the morning.  Nordstrom typically does a restock, but items are selling out so quickly this year!  Tomorrow I will be sharing photos & full reviews for the pieces I purchased, including what I loved & what I returned.

Perfectly Pressed

Anyone who knows me well knows that I can be a bit of a neat freak - I inherited this trait from my mom and, even though it's often seen as a negative quality, I like to view it as a personality strength.  This "obsession" (as my husband likes to call it) extends to our cars, home decor & organization, my office space & closet...and especially my wardrobe.

When it comes to my closet, I like to have things a certain way, so keeping my clothes freshly laundered & wrinkle-free is a top priority.  There's nothing worse than reaching for what you want to wear only to find that it needs to be pressed...especially when you're running short on time in the morning.  During the summer months, I find that so many of the clothes I wear are rayon, silk or I have to be extra vigilant in order to keep them looking pristine.

Finding a high-quality steamer has been essential to ensuring that my clothes look good at all times.  And, over the years, I've come up with a simple method to keep my wardrobe ready to wear, so I thought I'd share with you today 4 easy steps that you can incorporate into your schedule to make this happen:

1) After the laundry is done, set aside any wrinkled clothes on a separate rack or in a designated part of your closet, so you know they need to be steamed before they can be worn.  I use this foldable garment rack that rolls so I can easily move it where I need it to be.

2) Invest in good quality hangers - I swear by these because not only does the slim profile help create more hanging space in my closet, but even the slinkiest fabrics won't slip off while I'm steaming them. (Luggage // Rug // Similar Wall Art // Embellished Sandals // Metallic Sandals)

3) Set aside 15-20 minutes each week that you can dedicate to steaming your clothes - like any other household chore, you can stay on top of it if you are consistent.  This way, the clothes don't pile up over time and it doesn't feel as overwhelming.

4) Turn on some music to lighten the mood - there's something about doing this that makes it feel less like I'm doing "housework".  This is a trick I use with my kids too - they have a much more enthusiasm when I ask them to clean their room if they can listen to their favorite CD while they tidy up (and sometimes this turns into a family dance party when we're all done!).

I've always used a steamer for my daily needs but the model I have is several years old and not holding up as well as I'd hoped after multiple uses & regular travel.  So, it was definitely time for an upgrade and I was happy to test out this Rowenta Steam 'N Press Handheld Steamer, which works like a charm & is affordably priced!

The first thing I noticed is how compact & lightweight this model is, which makes it perfect for packing to bring on trips with me.  It has variable controls that allow you to select a different setting based on the type of fabric + a metal soleplate that doubles as an iron to help press out even the most stubborn wrinkles (something my previous model didn't have).

Thanks to the large water tank, you can steam clothes for 15 minutes before needing to refill (that's up to 5 shirts!). It also comes with a water cup (so you won't overfill), a fabric brush & lint pad (so handy for different knits) & a travel pouch to keep everything tidy in your suitcase.  Best of all, it's less than $30, so you don't have to spend a fortune to look your best in all those summer favorites.  I'd love to hear if you have any organizational or time-saving tips for staying on top of the laundry in your house!

Thank you to Rowenta for kindly sponsoring this post.
All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.

As we near the end of the season, retailers are already starting to release their new fall arrivals...which means that all those summer styles are getting seriously marked down!  Even though I've committed to not purchase any more warm-weather pieces, for those of you who are looking, this is a great time to stock up & save!  I've rounded 30 of the best picks for you below and everything is just $20 or less!  I was thrilled to find my favorite tees on sale - these come in 7 different colors & hold up great wash after wash & wear after wear (runs true to size).  Let me know if you would like to see more summer pieces in next month's edition or if you'd prefer for me to feature more transitional & pre-fall styles.

Striped & Scalloped

When bell sleeves became a big trend for the year, I was one of the first to jump on board.  But, I quickly learned that the longer & more dramatic the sleeve, the less practical it was for everyday (and I have the dry cleaning bill to prove it!).  So, finding options with a short or 3/4-length sleeve made much more sense for my lifestyle.

This top is made of a satin-like fabric that gives it such a luxe look & feel and the vertical stripes make it ultra-flattering.  I plan on styling this for weekend with white jeans & slide sandals.  There are also a pair of fluid pants in the same stripe (would be so chic paired with a white t-shirt & flat sandals).

Other bell-sleeve styles I love are this chambray top, this lightweight sweater (great transition piece!) & this poplin blouse.  But, if you're not a fan of bell sleeves at all, this cold-shoulder style is very similar to the top I'm wearing here & a great alternative if you live in a warmer climate & can't wear long sleeves this time of year.

What I'm wearing:
LOFT Bell Sleeve Top, Madewell Shorts (more options here, here or here),
BP Lula Sandals, White House Black Market Bag (similar here or here),
BaubleBar Earrings (similar) & Cuff (similar), ASOS Sunglasses

Elegantly Accessorized

We all know that carefully choosing the right accessories is essential to elevating any outfit.  Over the years, my style has become more refined & sophisticated - whereas I used to feel that I needed piled-on jewelry to make a statement, I now find myself taking a "less is more" approach.  I've also learned my lesson when it comes to costume pieces and, while it's fun to have a few trendy styles, for the most part I'd rather spend a bit more on jewelry that will last for years.

I've always been a big fan of Stella & Dot because their styles are well made, reasonably priced and perfectly classic. All of the pieces I own from them have held up incredibly well with no tarnish or breaking (some that are over 5 years old!).  Their new arrivals are too good to resist and this stunning pendant necklace instantly caught my eye.  I also love these drop earrings, this engravable bracelet, this tassel necklace...and how cute is this raffia tote?!

I'm excited to be partnering with them today & thrilled to share with you that they have graciously agreed to offer an exclusive discount code for PPF readers!  Just enter code PENNY10 (case sensitive) at checkout to receive 10% off your full-price purchase now through July 24th!

Sam Edelman Wedges, Hat Attack Tote (similar splurge or save),

Anniversary Sale Early Access

Today kicks off the first day of the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - those who are cardholders are granted early access to the sale a full week before everyone else, which is a huge advantage because, in my experience, the best items sell out fast!  If you're not familiar with this massive shopping event, it's when Nordstrom releases tons of new fall arrivals at up to 40% off + you get their standard free shipping & returns.

I find that it's best to take stock of your fall wardrobe before shopping so you're aware of any specific gaps that need to be filled.  But, it's also a good chance to invest in a few key trends for the coming season (like this plaid cape).  This is my first year shopping the sale early, so I decided to round-up my top picks for those of you who are doing the same.  If you're not a cardholder, I'll be sharing a second post once the sale goes live to the public (on July 21st) with the best finds that are still in stock & reviewing any purchases I've made.

Many of you have mentioned in the past that it's helpful to have the categories broken up when I'm sharing this many pieces, so I've done that for you below.  I honestly wasn't very impressed with the handbag selection for this year's sale, so I didn't include those this time around - the only two that I feel are worth mentioning are this weekender bag & this sleek tote.  Everything you see below is under $100 with the exception of a few coats - I'd love to hear what you've got your eye on!
