Weekly Top Finds

I've always had a soft spot for embroidered pieces & this season it is on trend in a big way.  I love the feminine bohemian feel these styles have to them and the effortless ease they bring to my spring wardrobe.  I'm rounding up my top affordable favorites below - the embroidered shorts seen here are a 5-inch length, for those of you who've been asking for longer options (get an extra 40% off with code 85469).  And I also just ordered #5, which looks like an expensive Anthropologie find, but it's under $30!

Elevated Separates

Many of you have been asking for more office-friendly looks so I'm sharing two outfits with you today - one that is work-ready and one that is casual & classic.  I tend to gravitate towards more polished pieces, mainly because it suits my personal style, but also because I find that when I wear them, I instantly feel put-together...even if I'm just working from home all day.   There are so many versatile styles at Nordstrom that you can wear to work & beyond. Some of my favorites include this lace pencil skirtthis floral sheath & this ruffled blouse.   Read on below to find out a few ways that I like to update my wardrobe & give it a fresh modern feel!

1) Mix textures
Nothing instantly elevates an outfit like mixing together different textures - think tweed, silk, fringe & crochet.  This white lace top is the perfect counterpoint to a structured skirt and the contrast of these materials creates a sophisticated luxe look (even though both pieces are affordably priced!).  Other combinations to try are this striped sweater (love the detail in back!) with this scalloped skirt or this ruffled top with this mesh midi skirt.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Hinge Lace Top (wearing an XS), c/o Halogen Tweed Skirt (wearing size 2),
c/o Halogen Amelia Sandals, c/o BP Colorblock ToteNails: Essie Lounge Lover

2) Personalize it
Getting creative with the way you style your separates injects your personality into the look & it's a great way to "make it your own".  This striped off-the-shoulder top is sure to be a spring classic & looks chic worn as is.  But, I decided to roll up the sleeves & knot it at the waist to add a little bit of flair.  I'd also wear this tucked into a denim skirt with simple sandals & a pastel neck scarf.

3) Try out trends
Adding of-the-moment footwear completes your look - don't be afraid to venture away from the classic pump & try something new.  Instead, opt for a metallic block heel (these go with everything), fringe suede sandals (so comfortable!) or a sleek neutral slide.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Halogen Off-The-Shoulder Top (wearing an XS),
c/o Halogen Crop Pants (wearing size 2; also in pink),
c/o BP Lula Sandalsc/o BP Colorblock Totec/o Cluse Watch
Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Lips: Trish McEvoy (Nude)

Sizing tip: I found that I needed to go down a size from what I normally wear to get a perfect fit for all of these pieces.  The good news is that almost everything here also comes in petite + they offer free shipping and returns so you can order multiple sizes if you're in between & simply send back what doesn't fit.

Check Please

Gingham is one of those patterns that keeps popping up everywhere this season - though I have a hard time referring to it as a "spring trend" when it's a timeless print that's been popular for decades. Whether your style is classic, feminine or modern, there are plenty of options to choose from.  I couldn't resist this checked sleeveless top - the shape is so forgiving & the tiered hem gives it such nice movement.  There's a cute off-the-shoulder version by the same brand - love the sleeves!  I've also worn this top with a lightweight cardigan & red flats (can't resist the red, black & white combination!).

I personally love the look of a traditional cargo/utility jacket, but the olive green styles I own don't always go with everything in my closet.  This crisp white jacket is a great alternative - the Tencel/linen blend is the perfect weight for spring & summer and you can adjust the drawstring waist for a more fitted look.  Other white jackets to try: this draped style, this anorak, this cropped trench or this linen blazer.

What I'm wearing:
Old Navy Jeans (similar here or here), Romena Espadrilles (on sale!),
Madewell Bag (similar here or here), c/o Capwell + Co. Bracelets
BaubleBar Earrings, Lips: MAC (Feels So Grand)

Natural Elements

As much as I love a classic breton stripe, bright florals & pretty pastels, there's something so understated and chic about a clean neutral palette for spring & summer.  Mixing different textures like crochet, fringe, linen, raffia & straw keeps things interesting and helps give your look a luxe feel.  I'm seriously eyeing this nude bag & I also just picked up these sandals (love the linen strap & studded details!).  Here are some of my favorite picks for the season, all affordably priced & endlessly versatile!

Day To Night Dresses

I was recently being interviewed and was asked what was the one piece in my closet that I felt the best in.  My answer?  A floral print dress I've had for more than 3 years.  After we wrapped up, I kept thinking about that question - so I went & took a look in my closet and realized that the garment I have the least of are dresses.  Why on earth do I own so few if that is the one piece that makes me feel the most confident and beautiful?  So, I decided right then & there that I would make it my mission to purchase & wear more dresses in the coming year.

Ever since she first launched her brand, I've been in love with all the feminine pieces in the LC Lauren Conrad line - I even got to meet her in person at a conference a few years ago (she was just as flawlessly beautiful & gracious as you'd imagine).  So I was thrilled to discover that she just launched a new collection at Kohl's called the Dress Up Shop - it's full of pretty separates & dresses that are perfect for all your upcoming special occasions.  I tried on several of the pieces & this chiffon pleated skirt fit like a dream - it's fully lined and just the right length (there's also a dress version, which is super flattering!).  I did find that most of these styles ran a bit big, so I recommend sizing down when ordering online.

The breezy, lightweight fabric of this cold-shoulder dress will be ideal for those hot summer days when I want to throw on one piece & instantly look put-together.  The shape is so forgiving too - sometimes I don't want to wear something that is super fitted and clingy.  And you all know how obsessed I am with this blush bucket bag (last seen here) - it's a great on-trend piece at an affordable price!  I'd also style this dress with flat sandals & a straw hat for a more casual feel.

What I'm wearing:

From the moment I put on this floral print maxi dress, I was completely smitten with it.  The ruffle detailing gives it such an soft, romantic feel & it really makes a statement!  This would be great for wearing to a wedding or special event this spring/summer.  I usually style my hair down, but when I'm dressing up for a special night out, sometimes it's nice to pull it off my face into a tousled ponytail - plus, it really shows off the elegant high neckline of this dress.

Spring In My Step

If you've followed my blog for a while, you know that I'm a big fan of JCPenney - they have really upped their fashion game over the last few years and I've found so many great pieces there for our entire family (my daughter loves the Arizona brand).  I've been a cardholder for a long time, but I recently signed up for their Rewards Program, where you earn points for every dollar you spend...which basically feels like you're getting paid to shop.

Right now, they are having their Friends & Family sale (through March 26th), so it's a great time to stock up for the season - you can get 25% off with any payment method or get 30% off when you use your JCPenney card with code 8FORYOU.  I picked up this striped top, this ruffled blouse & this cargo jacket is also a great price!  If you're looking for denim cut-offs that aren't too short, these are my favorite - I bought them in white before our Mexico trip & loved them so much that I went back & bought another pair in blue (I found that they run true to size).

Every woman needs a little lace dress for spring & I love that this one has 3/4-length sleeves, which makes it more versatile.  I paired it with casual pieces like a denim jacket & ankle-strap sandals, but you could easily dress it up with statements earrings & lace-up heels (a great option for Easter!).  More lace dresses to try include this bell-sleeve stylethis scalloped-hem shift this fit & flare.

What I'm wearing:
c/o Levi's Denim Jacket, c/o Ronni Nicole Lace Dress (wearing size 4),
c/o Worthington Beckwith Pumps (also in red, black & nude),

This look would be perfect for vacation - I'm wishing I had found these pants before Mexico because they are so lightweight & comfortable (anything with an elastic waist is a win in my book!).  The printed pattern gives them a chic laid-back vibe and the little ruffle detail on this sweater adds a feminine touch.  I can't get over these scalloped wedges - they are a near-identical dupe to a much more expensive designer version and they literally go with everything.  I'd also wear these pants with a fitted tank, metallic flat sandals & straw hat - so great for a day at the beach!

What I'm wearing:
c/o Liz Claiborne Ruffle Sleeve Sweater (wearing Small), c/o by&by Palazzo Pants (wearing Small),
c/o CL by Laundry Brice Wedgesc/o Straw Studios Hyacinth Tote, c/o Bleu Tassel Hoop Earrings
