In the early spring, there are still plenty of opportunities to layer (mostly out of necessity) so today I thought I would share a few of my favorite ways to do this. All of these outfits have been featured on the blog over the past couple of years so you’ll notice my different hair lengths & color as you scroll down. I chose to highlight mostly casual looks with denim that feature some of my must-have outerwear picks for the season & I’m sharing some affordable options for you to shop too! Read on below for all the details…
TRENCH COAT
Similar Trench // Floral Blouse // Skinny Jeans // Heeled Sandals
I’ve mentioned this before, but a trench coat is a timeless & sophisticated topper that will instantly elevate any outfit. I fully believe every woman should have at least one in her wardrobe – and while you can find some budget-friendly styles, I think this is a coat that’s worth splurging on (this one is very similar to the Burberry style & under $120). Though I dressed it up with a floral blouse & heels here, I also love wearing mine with a breton striped top, slim trousers and pointed flats for a Parisian chic feel.
CARGO JACKET
Similar Jacket // Striped Tee // Black Jeans // Mules
Without a doubt, my most worn jacket in the spring and summer months is this utility style. Perfect for completing those casual weekend looks, but these look equally as chic dressed up a bit (try layering over a crisp button down or belt it at the waist). Many of you have mentioned in the past that you don’t love the traditional olive green that this style of jacket is known for, so I’ve included several options below in varying colors that would be just as versatile for the season (my daughter has a rose colored one that I borrow on occasion!).
ANORAK
Similar Anorak // Striped Sweater // Jeans // Slip-On Sneakers
Anoraks are a must-have for those breezy spring days & are especially great for taking to the beach or camping. I recommend looking for styles that are a slightly longer length, are made from a water-resistant material and have a hood – bonus points if there’s an adjustable drawstring waist! Pair with a lightweight sweater, jeans & rain boots (or sneakers) for an easy on-the-go outfit.
MOTO JACKET
Moto Jacket // Rose T-Shirt // White Jeans // Mules
A modern moto is ideal for pairing with more feminine styles because it gives your look a little edge. Even if you already own a basic black leather style, I love the idea of a softer hue for spring – think neutrals, light earth tones or pastels. I wear mine with jeans just as much as I do with dresses and skirts – just be careful of the length you select & make sure that it hits at a flattering spot to keep your proportions in check.
BOMBER
Similar bomber // Lace top // Olive jeans // Sandals
I have never thought of myself as a bomber person, but they have come a long way over the years. They are are so many silky feminine styles out right now that are great for layering over blouses & camisoles. These are also very work-friendly and are a nice alternative to a structured blazer. I’ve included some satin options as well as casual cotton blends for you below.
DRAPED JACKET
Similar jacket // Camisole // Jeans // Booties
Draped jackets are probably the easiest of the bunch to wear because they’re lightweight & flattering. Whether you opt for a shorter length or a duster style, these are perfect for throwing on over floral dresses or with a simple tank & jeans. As always, I recommend taking a good look at your closet & choosing a color that you’ll be able to wear with multiple pieces that you already own.
