I am not normally one to write out a list of things I want to do differently at the beginning of a new year…but for some reason, I feel compelled to do it now & I’ve decided to share some of my “personal goals” with you, in the hopes that writing them out will help hold me accountable to make them happen in 2013. So here are my top 10 resolutions & feel free to share yours in the comments below!
1) Call my dad once a week
He is the first man I loved, the leader of our family & he always gives me sound advice
2) Take my vitamins every day
For someone who is severely anemic, I need to do a better job of remembering my pills…my health depends on it!
3) Be okay with saying “no”
Though it goes against my people-pleasing tendencies, I have seen the stress that comes from stretching myself too thin & it simply isn’t worth it
4) Expand my recipe book
I am always baking up new desserts, but when it comes to making dinner, I pull from the same old repertoire…time to actually try some of those recipes I’ve pinned!
5) Play the piano & sing more often
Music is my first love & nothing elevates my mood faster
6) Take my 9-year-old on monthly mother/daughter outings
Fostering that relationship & building her trust now will reap benefits when she hits those preteen/teenage years
7) Wash my makeup brushes every week
It doesn’t take long to do, prolongs the life of brushes & can prevent breakouts
8) Start working out with my husband
I like to run & dance; he prefers to swim & bike…so we’ve always exercised separately – this year we’re going to try a new DVD workout together & treat it like a “date” after the kids are in bed
9) Make wise purchases
Being a budget shopper, it’s so easy to buy something because “it’s such a great deal” and then end up with things I really don’t need. I want to be smarter about what I buy & only spend my money on pieces I truly love
10) Do monthly community service
Now that my kids are old enough, I want to expose them more to the world around them & teach them to help those in need by finding ways to serve together & give back as a family.
What a great set of goals to work towards… I am definitely on the same page as you with being motivated to buy wiser purchases this year!

Happy New Year!
I want to try and make smarter shopping choices too. What kind of dance do you like to do? I teach dance (jazz and tap). My husband and I just took some ballroom classes on a cruise that we went on. SO much fun!

I love your list, everything on it is so meaningful and inspiring. Reading your blog has gotten me on the right track as far as buying goes but I still have a long way to go, nothing like a great deal! I love your blog!
Those are great resolutions! I hope you have a wonderful new year! ๐
These are great goals! I'm posting my goals today as well!

WHat a list! But all doable. Love it. I perform in musicals at the community theater to satisfy my need to sing.

I don't usually make resolutions (for fear I can't keep them and don't want to feel like I let myself down!) but I love reading other people's!
Good for you for making washing your makeup brushes once a week a goal – it truly prolongs their life! I've had a Chanel brush for 10 yrs since starting my freelance makeup biz, and it still works good as new since the day I bought it bc I take care of it!
Glad I found your blog!

Great goals and definitely doable ๐ My goal is to read more! I used to read so many books when I was younger and once I started college I stopped, and now since I'm done with school and have more time I want to pick it up again.

Great goals!! Happy New Year!!
Those are some great resolutions – it is so important to foster good habits, and definitely set the example for your kids.
And I could stand to stop buying things just because they are too cheap not to!!

Love your list! My hubs and I are going to try to work out together more too, and my girlfriends and I are planning to do monthly charity activities too. Happy New Year!
i can totally relate to #9. those must-have deals at a fraction of the cost can really add up. i've put myself on an insanely low shopping budget for the entire year.
and saying no is something i do regularly…guilt free. wishing you continued success in 2013!
Love this look on you! I have the same plaid shirt and agree it's so versatile! Sounds like we wore the exact same thing on Christmas Day! You styled this perfectly! xo.

NO. 9 is such an important one! It's a good idea to think about how much you think an item is worth before you look at the price tag. The difference should give you a good idea about whether you should buy it. Not that I'm very good about actually doing this… haha ๐
Good luck with your list!

My hubby and I liked different workout routines too. We both had never tried bike riding so we bought new bikes and hit the trails here..we love it. It also gives us a chance to laugh, talk, & relax!
Ok, as I'm reading through your blog I'm loving you more and more! You're beautiful outside and have some ridiculously good fashion sense ๐ and seem even sweeter inside. I love your openness about church, family, and helping others… (And I'm finding we have even more in common when it comes to our "people-pleasing-tendencies"…Haha!! Something I've been struggling to balance for a while!!) What a great site. I'll be visiting often and will tell friends :)!
This is awesome!! 4 months in, have you done any of them? I'd love to see a post on the progress of this!
