I’m convinced that October is the best month to live in New York – the leaves start changing to brilliant reds, oranges & yellows and there’s a crispness to the air that makes the humid summer heat feel like a distant memory. It always feels like the perfect time for new beginnings and, for the neutral lover that I am, it means a chance to embrace autumn hues and play around a bit with color.
You’ve all told me how much you love shopping at Nordstrom, thanks to their free shipping & returns + the best customer service in retail fashion. So, I’m excited to be partnering with them today to share with you two layered fall looks featuring some color combinations I’m loving for the season (pumpkin + oxblood and eggplant + blush). Though they’re well known for their high-end styles, I scoured their site to find the best affordable pieces & I’m highlighting them all for you below (everything from $25-$80).
If you haven’t already heard, they just launched their new rewards program, The Nordy Club, where you can earn rewards based on what you spend. You’ll also get to shop early for the Anniversary Sale, receive exclusive access to brand new product launches before the general public + you’ll be give priority access to attend free styling events & beauty workshops. The best part is that it’s free to sign up & you don’t have to be a cardholder to join!
When I was doing my closet clean-out last month & evaluating my fall wardrobe, I realized I didn’t have any long-sleeve dresses. If you look back through old outfit posts here, it’s clear to see that I’ve never been one to favor body-hugging styles. But, I fell in love with this color of this dress and, after reading all the rave reviews, I was convinced to give it a try. Needless to say, it did not disappoint – there’s something truly magical about the fit that is so flattering and yet comfortable at the same time (a hard combo to find!).
This comes in 9 colors and is truly the perfect fall dress. For this price, you can’t go wrong – I’m tempted to order a second one in a different color! I’d add some statement earrings & pair it with heels for evening (layer a moto jacket on top for extra warmth). This would also be great for those of you who are doing fall family pictures.
I’m wearing a Small & part of me wishes I had sized up, but I’m hoping it will stretch a little with wear – if you want a more relaxed fit, I recommend going up one size. I am wearing these Spanx underneath for a smooth, seamless look (a wardrobe must-have!). Other long-sleeve dresses to try: this floral print, this wrap dress & this sweater dress. If you’re looking for some short-sleeve options, check out this floral midi, this tie-front dress, this crepe dress or this t-shirt dress.

This time of year is perfect for lightweight layering & I’m a big fan of ponchos, capes & ruanas. These are so easy to throw on over a sweater or long-sleeved tee and they instantly add a chic element to your outfit. They’re also especially ideal for travel because they’re basically like wearing a blanket! I love the eggplant hue of this one (it’s reversible!) & the fringed detail. I layered it over this ribbed sweater, which is the softest knit and has a good thickness to it. This would be so pretty layered over this lace-trim camisole & paired with this pleated skirt for a feminine evening look.
I decided to wear the same pair of boots with both of these looks to show you two different ways to wear sock booties – I’ve been getting lots of questions about this footwear trend & it’s more versatile than you might think! When you invest in a comfortable pair, you can wear them over and over again with skirts, dresses, leggings or jeans. These also come in black leather, but I honestly didn’t need another pair of black boots and I thought this pretty gray suede had a softer look. I found these to be true to size – the block heel makes them very wearable & easy to walk in.
