Gone are the crisp fall days where you could get away without wearing a coat! December is finally here and warm layers are an absolute necessity for surviving the winter chill. But, being bundled up doesn’t mean you have to look frumpy – when you choose the right pieces & layer in a strategic way, you can still look chic and stay toasty all day long!
Now is a great time to shop for winter styles because lots of items start to get marked down in anticipation of the holidays. Lord & Taylor just launched their Friends & Family Sale, where you’ll get 30% off almost everything & 15% off almost all beauty & fragrance with code FRIENDS. These prices are the lowest of the season, which means that things are selling out quickly – so if you see something you love, don’t hesitate! I browsed both their online site & shopped at my local store to put together two bundled-up winter looks – one that’s work-appropriate & one more casual weekend style. These velvet jeans are such a steal at under $35 – they come in 4 different colors & the fit is perfection! Because of the nature of this fabric, I’d recommend going down one size – they might feel a bit snug when you first put them on, but they will stretch a bit as you wear them throughout the day. I’d also style these with a pretty blouse, sparkly pumps & statement earrings (like these or these) for a festive holiday look.
This classic turtleneck is a great layering piece for the season & the quality is amazing! I went up a size in this but if you want a more fitted look, stick with your normal size. This is thicker than some of my other fine knit turtlenecks, which I appreciate because it doesn’t feel paper thin & I can tell it will hold up better through the wash. And this tailored coat also has a great weight to it so it will actually keep you warm (runs true to size).

Anything with a big faux fur-lined hood is a winner in my book and I love that this coat is a lighter neutral color, which is something I didn’t previously own. This would also be chic with gray jeans & a blush sweater for a pretty take on winter pastels. This plaid scarf is one of my favorites because the colors go with just about everything and it’s not a blanket-sized wrap, so it’s more versatile & wearable. I’d also pair it with this red cable knit sweater for a Christmas-ready feel.
More sale finds under $40: these corduroy jeans (in Foxy Brown), this classic sweater (in Bordeaux), this floral wrap dress, these coated jeans, this metallic sweater (in Navy) & this leather satchel (in burgundy). Check out 6 more winter layered looks that I created here!
