One of the best parts about fall is getting the chance to get creative with layering different pieces together. I get lots of questions every year about how to layer without adding bulk and I always recommend following the rule of 1 thin piece + 1 thick piece. For example, you if you paired a chunky knit sweater under a teddy coat, you’re going to end up with an oversized look. But if you pair that same teddy coat with a fine-knit merino wool sweater or pair the chunky knit sweater with a drapey plaid shirt underneath, it won’t be nearly as bulky. Below I’ve created six fall outfits featuring some of my favorite ways to layer – I tried to focus on affordable pieces that I believe are wardrobe staples so you can get the most bang for your buck!
