This style of clothing is generally classified as an understated preppy, classy, and stylish. Country club outfits incorporate classic, modest, and simple pieces. You could even describe these look as Old Money Outfits.
If you are unsure about what to wear to a country club, check the club website for their dress policy. Each country club will have a different dress code so it’s best to check online before you go for the first time!

In addition, I worked nearly 8 years in finance alongside some pretty wealthy executives. That means, I attended my fair share of luncheons and team outings at the premier country clubs in my area, all thanks to the club memberships of my co-workers. If you’ve been to one club, you’ve been to them all and each time you enter with the feeling like your every move and every piece of clothing is being judged.

What NOT to Wear for Country Club Attire
As mentioned above, it’s always best to check with the club dress code policy before going, especially if you are unsure.
Some clubs are very casual, while others can be more formal. There may also be specific items that are not allowed.
The dress code might explicitly state that you should avoid specific items such as tank tops, flip flops, leggings, hoodies etc.
If you cannot find a dress code, there are a few items of clothing that you generally should avoid wearing to a country club.
- baggy or destressed jeans
- yoga pants
- miniskirts & short shorts
- sweatpants and hoodies
- clothing with profanity or offensive images
Is it OK to Wear Jeans to a Country Club?
The answer to this question will vary. You MUST first consider the club dress policy and the event you are attending. The club may accept denim, but it might not be the best option for your particular event.
Most clubs are OK with polished, tailored, dark wash denim. Other clubs will restrict denim during specific times, such as formal dinner hours and special events. If in doubt, it’s best to avoid denim altogether or call the country club an ask in advance of your visit there!

Country clubs are often a hub for various activities, and it can be overwhelming to figure out what to wear, especially if it’s your first time going!

If you plan to attend the club for sporting activities, you want to wear proper attire. For golf or tennis, you’ll need to wear golf or tennis shoes (naturally), a collared shirt, and trousers, or a skirt or long line shorts. Visors or minimal hats are also a good option for sunny days, too!
