Hair

The Romantic Twist

For this month’s hairstyle, I wanted to create something that’s simple enough for everyday, but that would also work for evening. This will work if you have hair that is my length or longer and it looks best with soft natural-looking waves. I started with clean hair & then I curled small sections with a 1″ barrel curling iron, breaking up the waves with my fingers once cool.

The Double Chignon

Since cutting my hair short, I have really missed having the ability to create updos. Especially as we head into the holiday season, I wanted to come up with a style that would be evening appropriate and would work for those of us who have shorter locks. A chignon is a classic updo that is perfect for date night or a special event, but because my hair has lots of textured layers, try as I might, I could never get it to stay in a bun. After a little playing around with it, I realized that I could make it work by separating my hair into two sections and “stacking” two buns on top of each other. If you have tapered side layers, you could also alter this style by placing the buns side by side instead of stacked. This is also a great option if you are blessed with overly thick hair (like my daughter) because it creates smaller buns that stay in place better.

Half Braided Crown

Today I’m launching a new mini-series of tutorials to chronicle how Women’s Rogaine has helped me amp up the volume to achieve my favorite hairstyles. I personally am so excited to see the hair growth that I will achieve over the course of the next 3 months using this product and I can’t wait to share the results with you! For this first tutorial, I wanted to create an easy everyday style that will work for long, medium or short hair like mine. Since many of you have asked how I get my loose textured waves to look natural, I’ve worked those steps into this guide to help show you how to do it yourself.

Holiday Glam Curls

This is my final hair tutorial post in my 6 month collaboration with TRESemmé. I’ve had so much fun creating these styles for you & I’m so grateful to TRESemmé for sponsoring this content for my site. Since the holidays are just around the corner, I wanted to focus on a hairstyle that is ideal for all those upcoming parties & events you’ll be attending. These voluminous curls are soft, bouncy, full of shine and would be the perfect complement to a glam evening look!

The Glam Knot

For this fall hairstyle tutorial, I wanted to do a modern take on the classic bun. I was inspired by designer Jenny Packham’s show last season at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York, which featured these glamorous “undone” knots. It’s simple enough for everyday but would also be great for an evening out – just add a smokey eye and statement earring! The key to making it look effortless is keeping it loose and allowing face framing pieces to fall out – you want to create a slightly undone feel.

Loose Beachy Waves

I’ve been getting a lot of questions recently about how to create the loose waves I often wear in my hair (recently seen here). This is, without a doubt, one of my go-to styles…it looks great on everyone and when done correctly gives off an effortless vibe that’s ideal for summer. So I’ve decided to share my tips for recreating this at home. Unlike the updo we created in May, you will achieve the best results with this look when your hair is freshly washed & blow-dried. Because this style is all about ease, you don’t want the curls to be tight or too perfect looking – it’s important to break up the waves by running your fingers through to create a slightly undone feel. This is a perfect look for a girls night or date night out!

Twisted-Back Ponytail

Since this is the time of year when wedding invites start flooding your mailbox, I decided to do a pretty style in keeping with the season for this month’s hair tutorial. Whether you are going to a bridal shower, attending a wedding or even if you’ve been asked to be a bridesmaid, this soft & simple look is easy enough for anyone to recreate & is ideal for this type of event. I personally love this style because it’s a feminine twist on the everyday ponytail – and since you are wrapping your hair around the base, your elastic won’t show through…which gives it a more polished look. If you are in the wedding party, you can tuck a sprig of baby’s breath at the top of twist for an elegant finish.

Braids: Day to Night

I’m so excited to share with you today the first in a new series of hairstyle posts! One of my 2014 goals for PPF was to start to incorporate more hair and beauty tutorials since so many of you have been asking for this. I’ve partnered with TRESemmé to take runway-inspired looks and translate them into everyday styles that anyone can do. I’ll be posting one new style each month and including step-by-step instructions so you can recreate them at home.

For this month’s post, I’m drawing inspiration from the Rebecca Minkoff show, where they featured messy braided updo’s. I have always loved braids because they have an effortless, relaxed feel to them that’s perfect for spring & summer (great for those days when your hair isn’t cooperating or it’s too humid outside to wear it down). I decided to show 2 looks – one that’s ideal for daytime and one that has a romantic twist for an evening out.

Favorite Hairstyles

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with your hair, especially when you are short on time in the mornings & don’t have a lot of time to put into your look. So, I decided to share some of my favorite styles (one for every day of the week!) and the products I use to achieve them. This is a somewhat lengthy post – but my hope is that you can Pin It or bookmark to pull up later when you want to try something new.
