Layered Up

It’s funny how a change in climate & surroundings can completely transform your style.  I was a layering novice when we lived in Oregon & North Carolina, but when we moved to New York, I was forced to rethink my wardrobe in a whole new way and learn the art of how to layer.  It took me some time, but it now feels second nature to me.  As I mentioned in my September post (here), I love to shop at JCPenney for affordable fashion that works for my everyday life.  They recently launched a new line of clothes by Belle + Sky, which is a collection of on-trend & budget-friendly pieces.  It contains a great selection of dresses, blouses, vests & jeans all under $60.  Today I’m styling up some of my top picks from the collection + a few other JCPenney favorites into easy layered looks.

I shared about this coat on my Facebook page and I couldn’t be happier that I scooped it up.  It’s a dead ringer for a much more expensive designer version but at a fraction of the price (and the hood is removable).  These jeans have just the right amount of distressing and are so stretchy & comfortable.  I like that the length hits right at my ankle so I don’t have to roll them up to wear with my ankle boots.  I wore this exact outfit for a quick weekend trip to NYC with my daughter and it kept me toasty warm while we walked up & down the streets.

What I’m wearing:
c/o a.n.a Coat (wearing Small Petite), c/o Liz Claiborne sweater (wearing a Small),
c/o Joe Fresh Shirt (check your local store), c/o Belle + Sky Skinny Jeans (wearing size 6),
c/o Arizona Travis Boots, c/o BaubleBar Juniper Ear Jackets

Obviously I have an affinity for layering sweaters over button-down shirts.  I like how it changes the proportion of a look and adds a little more interest to neutral basics.  This ribbed pencil skirt is a wardrobe essential because you can dress it up or down and the knit moves with you instead of feeling restricting.  I also picked up this knit dress (probably the most comfortable thing I’ve ever put on) and this tunic sweater (the perfect length for wearing with leggings & my faux leather pants).

What I’m wearing:

c/o a.n.a Sweater (wearing a Small), c/o Worthington Shirt, c/o Belle + Sky Pencil Skirt,
c/o Liz Claiborne Tracy Crossbody Bag, c/o a.n.a Candice Booties, BaubleBar Ear Jackets

Thank you to JCPenney & ShopStyle for kindly sponsoring this post.
All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.

Instagram post 2196925579391191033_216275318 Remember last week when I shared about our family day trip to @fashionniagara?! I’m giving you a behind the scenes look in IG stories today & I couldn’t wait to show you this full outfit I snagged for a steal 💃🏻 They have over 200 designer brands with stores that are unique to the area - I spent most of my time hitting up my fave spots like @saksoff5th & @hm (where this whole look is from). It’s the perfect day trip to take & I love that, unlike other outlets, this mall is enclosed so you don’t have to battle the elements walking from store to store 🙌🏻 Now is the perfect time to visit & get those last minute holiday gifts for a fraction of the retail price! #sponsored #fashionoutletsofniagarafalls #niagarafalls #outlets #hmxme #budgetshopping
Instagram post 2196157462918522795_216275318 A little sparkle & shine ✨ I love mixing textures like this metallic sweater, coated jeans + velvet bag combo👌🏻What is your pairing of choice for more casual holiday parties? Instagram post 2193185827274057016_216275318 In my happy place with festive decor 🎄, holiday music playing in the background 🎶 and some amazing deals in my bag 🎁 I'm not a big fan of mall shopping, but outlets are a different story - they're so much less crowded (even during this busy season) + the prices are more in line with my budget. Last week, we drove to @fashionniagara for a fun family day & we had the best time!  We stopped by Niagara Falls on the way (which is even more breathtaking in the winter ❄️), did some holiday gift shopping, had a delicious lunch & then let the kids load up on their favorite candy @itsugar 🍭(we may or may not have regretted this later 🙈). If you live in the area, I highly recommend making the drive - it would be such a fun girls trip, day date with your significant other or a family outing (if you have little ones, there is a @disney outlet that is amazing 🙌🏻). I can't wait to show you what I picked up for myself @hm - I'll be sharing the full look next week, so stay tuned!  #sponsored #fashionoutletsofniagarafalls #niagarafalls #outlets
Instagram post 2192542940848740542_216275318 One part of my job that I really enjoy is testing out products & ordering/trying on pieces from newly-launched collections ❤️Consider it my way of helping you discover brands or beauty items you might love 🙏🏻 Sometimes I order pieces from a new line and they never make it to the blog & other times, I buy and keep the pieces because they’re just THAT. GOOD. In today’s post, I’m sharing two updates basics that I recently purchased and can’t get enough of. The best part? They’re both under $30 🙌🏻 (link in profile) #layeredlooks #contributingeditor #lookschallenge #ssclooks #kohlsfinds #ninewest
