I’ll admit that I have a love/hate relationship with the winter – that’s what happens when you move somewhere that gets an average of 95 inches of snow each year! While it certainly is beautiful, it can make the smallest task (like going to the grocery store) extremely difficult. And getting dressed for the cold & blizzard-like conditions has its own unique set of challenges. I’ll be honest, in extreme weather conditions, all that matters to me is having warm & stylish outerwear – because most people will only see your coat & nothing else!
Typically, when it comes to winter coats, I recommend splurging a bit because you generally get what you pay for. But, today I’m excited to share with you some options that are affordably priced & will keep you warm all season long! This is the best time of year to buy outerwear because you can get great quality for less – thanks to Macy’s Winter Weekend Sale happening now through 1/27, you’ll get an extra 20% off select styles sitewide with code WINTER. Read on for some of my favorites to check out…
I cannot say enough good things about this faux shearling coat – I mean, how gorgeous is this color?! It is so warm & soft and it looks even more expensive in person (cannot believe it’s only $35!!). I’d say it runs true to size – I always go up a size in coats if I know I’m going to layer chunky sweaters underneath, so I’m wearing a small here (also petite & plus). If you’re looking for a similar less substantial style, this gray jacket that I shared earlier in the season is marked down to under $60.
For those of you who need new white denim for spring/summer, these jeans are a great option – they have a comfortable mid-rise, the perfect length and they are not at all see-through (true to size). And these over-the-knee boots are only $50 (also come in black) – I did go up half a size in these & they are so comfortable/easy to walk in.
Other wool-blend outerwear that’s currently on sale under $85: this hooded camel coat, this black walker coat & this belted double-breasted coat (so flattering!). If you live in a slightly warmer climate, this cashmere-blend peacoat would be a great option (such a steal & it comes in 10 colors!).
What I’m wearing:
c/o Style & Co. Faux Shearling Coat, c/o Calvin Klein Popcorn-Knit Sweater,
c/o Lucky Brand Jeans, c/o Steve Madden Over-The-Knee Boots,
Lips: bareMinerals Geranium, Nails: Essie Merino Cool
I was pleasantly surprised by this quilted puffer coat – I actually ordered three different options and ended up liking this one the best (this one was a close second, but you definitely need to size up). The features I liked best were the knit cuffs with thumb holes (a little added warmth + I can still fit my gloves over them), the water resistant fabric (a must when you live in the Northeast!), the zippered pockets (my other puffer coat has pockets with snaps, which drives me crazy!).
Since so many of you have requested winter outfit ideas, I thought I’d compile a few layered looks using pieces from the sale:
SPORTY: This red puffer coat over this striped turtleneck with these black jeans & these lace-up boots
SOPHISTICATED: This lace-accented puffer over this embellished sweater with these wine-colored pants & these slouchy black boots
MODERN: This teddy coat (in butterscotch) over this black v-neck sweater with these straight-leg jeans & these faux fur-lined mules (also in houndstooth here)
I just discovered a new feature on Macy’s site that I’ve been loving lately & wanted to share. Once you create an account (or sign in to your existing account), you can add items you like to a saved list & then request alerts for when those things drop in price. There’s nothing worse than buying something only to see it get marked down after you’ve purchased it, so this is an easy way to keep an eye on those things you love & wait for a good sale to grab them! I started using this recently & it has been such a time (& money) saver. You can create different lists for your kids, home, beauty, etc. and keep them all in one place – so helpful!!
Thank you to Macy’s & ShopStyle for kindly sponsoring this post.
All opinions are 100% honest & all items were hand-selected by me.
