Now is the perfect time to try something fun & different with your makeup – because you can get away with a little extra glitz during the holiday season. This metallic eye is perfect for a date night out, a special holiday party or your New Year’s Eve celebration. I’ve included a couple options because, based on skin tones, some people will look better with gold/bronze and some with pewter/silver shadows. Take a peek:
The key to pulling this off is balance. See how in both these looks they have added liner & mascara to help ground the reflective shadow…but everything else (blush & lips) is kept muted & soft?
-
When working with highly metallic or glittery shadow, make sure you do your eyes first & then your foundation/powder after. That way if any falls below onto your cheekbone, it’s easier to clean up.
-
After priming your lids, use a flat brush to apply shadow from your lashline to beyond your crease (see photos above)…almost to your browbone, but not quite.
-
Blend, blend, blend! And don’t forget to highlight the inner corners of your eyes, too.
-
Define brows – this step is particularly important with this look.
-
Apply liner & two coats of black mascara (I like to use a chocolate brown liner with gold shadow & a charcoal gray for silver, so it doesn’t create as stark of a contrast as black would).
-
Do a light sweep of blush & a nude lip (stick with more neutral tones vs. pinks)
Great colors for the holiday season! Love the selections.
cute for the holidays! new years make up for sure.
i NEVER wear shadow. literally, i have two shadows that i've had for years. these make me want to give it a try again. if you lived close by, i would just come over to your house and have you do my makeup daily! =) ha ha

Oh how I wish, Jenn! That would be so fun…maybe if we both get to go to NYC for blog conferences next year, I can do your makeup! 🙂
ahhh! this is so lovely. wish i was brave enough to try. somehow me thinks my red hair would not appreciate this eye color. 🙂

What a fun look – especially for the holidays 🙂

I am so thankful for this posting as it gives me a little more inspiration and confidence to try something new in the eye-shadow department! I've stayed away from metallics simply because someone once told me I was too old for them (I think it was my dad…LOL!) But for a fun, sexy holiday evening out – it looks perfect!!

I like these a lot; I received a metallic set from Bare Minerals last year and really love how they look when I use them wet.

I do love metallic eye. I have two shades from Bobbi Brown that are a subtle metallic brown colour, actually these are more like my daily eyeshadows I love them so much!
