My Monthly Edit

THINKING
I’ve received some comments recently about the amount of sponsored posts on my site – though I responded directly to each one, I decided to address it here so I could explain the reason there were more in November.  What makes my situation unique from many other bloggers is that what I earn from my blog is our family’s main source of income (more details here).  So, that means when we have a sudden financial hardship or an unexpected need arise, I have to make difficult decisions to take on more than I usually do.  At the end of the day, I am just like any other working mom who is trying as hard as she can to provide for her family.  While I do believe that there will always be a place for sponsored content on PPF, my goal is to do less of these going forward and to keep them more regularly spaced out.  As always, my promise to you is to remain authentic at all times, to clearly disclose paid opportunities & to only partner with brands who are a natural fit.  My desire is to continue to maintain an open dialogue here, so I encourage you to share your thoughts with me – I truly value your feedback as it helps me grow & determine what will make this site the most beneficial for everyone who visits.

LOVING

My husband surprised me with this pavé ring set for my birthday and I’ve been wearing them nonstop ever since. The delicate bands are perfect for layering – wear one on each finger, stack them all together or mix with other favorites from your jewelry box.  Some other dainty pavé pieces I’ve got my eye on are these ear jackets & this slim cuff – all of these would make great holiday gifts too!

READING
I’ve been going through some difficult personal trials over the last few months.  This fall in particular, I was feeling really burned out and unhappy with my circumstances.  On more than one occasion, I found myself expressing this frustration in unhealthy ways and complaining far too often (which is completely out of character for me).  After speaking with a counselor & analyzing what the real source of the problem was, I started to make some changes – perhaps the most simple was beginning to practice daily gratitude.  Making a list of all the things I have to be thankful for on a regular basis has helped put my situation into perspective.  This article explains in detail the dramatic effect that being grateful can have…not just in shifting our attitude, but also in improving our health.

WEARING

When my daughter & I were in NYC for my birthday weekend, I somehow misplaced my ivory cashmere hat that I’ve had for the last two years (seen here).  I was so devastated after unpacking from our trip & realizing I’d lost it because it was my absolute favorite (it’s challenging to find beanies that look good on me because I have such a large head).  So I was thrilled when I discovered that Ann Taylor had brought back the same style again this year in an assortment of colors.  I took advantage of their Black Friday sale and ordered both gray & black – here’s to hoping I don’t lose another one!

MAKING

It’s been years since my husband and I have had a chance to get away just the two of us, so we are really excited to be traveling to Vegas next month.  It’s not our first choice for a vacation destination, but since he has to attend a trade show there, we decided it was a good opportunity to combine work & a little bit of fun.  My parents are coming out to visit for a few weeks in January, so they offered to stay with the kids to give us some time alone.  We’re just starting to make our travel plans now, so I’d love to hear if any of you have suggestions for shows that you’ve seen & loved, fun activities that you’ve enjoyed off the strip or healthy restaurants (with gluten-free options) that you’d recommend.  Please share in the comments below or email me!

CRAVING
Party season is just around the corner and this fun fringe top is on my wish list!  It comes in three neutral colors, but I’m partial to this ivory/blush combination (which would transition nicely into the spring & summer). I’d pair it with a crystal necklace, jacquard trousers & festive clutch for evening.  But, it would look equally as cute layered under a cropped jacket with skinny jeans & metallic pumps for a polished day look.
