With my kids at home all summer, my motivation to be “doing all the things” has hit an all-time low and I’ve been finding myself taking more days off to relax and just be present with them. Though there’s still work to be done around the house, blog posts to write & bills to be paid, I’m re-discovering the joy of slowing down & putting less pressure on myself to constantly be going at a rapid pace. This article so perfectly puts into words how I’ve been feeling lately & if you’re in the same boat, let me encourage you that there is so much beauty (& tremendous peace) in embracing the mediocre.
I’m all about finding easy shortcuts to getting ready in the morning – anything to be able to sleep in a little longer! So, when a friend of mine raved about this hair towel, I was intrigued & decided to give it a try. The super-absorbent fibers work like magic & not only cut my drying time in half, but has also produced less frizz after using for a couple weeks. It comes in a handy hair turban style, which I’m thinking I may order next to keep in the trailer for our camping trips.
WEARING
I don’t mind enduring a little discomfort in the name of fashion (hello, strapless bra)…but 9 times out of 10, if given the option, I will choose a more relaxed option for every day. This lace bralette is, without a doubt, the prettiest I’ve ever seen – I fell so head over heels for it that I ordered multiple colors and have barely taken them off since they arrived. I love how it looks peeking out from under a slouchy tee (for summer) and a wrap sweater (for fall). Sizing note: I’d say these run true to size – I’m a 34B and ordered a small.
One of my favorite styling tricks that I’ve used over the years is to take something that’s more sporty and pair it with an ultra-feminine piece. So, naturally, I love the new trend of casual footwear made in unexpected fabrics that give them a more elevated feel. I picked up these blush satin sneakers last week and have been swapping out my usual white pair & wearing these instead (they also come in grey). Other options I’m loving right now: burgundy velvet, leopard calf hair, crystal embellished & floral embroidered.
MAKING
Sometimes you just need a little chocolate & when that craving hits, my dessert of choice is a classic chocolate chip cookie. But, since going Paleo, I’ve struggled to find a recipe that my entire family loves because it’s hard to match the texture of the traditional version. This one is the best we’ve tried so far – it’s egg-free, grain-free & can also be made nut-free with sunflower seed butter…the taste is out of this world! For reference, I exclusively use this flour & these chocolate chips for all my baking.
