PLANNING
When my parents were visiting over the holidays, we came up with a plan for a big combined road trip this summer. They will leave from Oregon and we will leave from New York (both of us pulling our trailers) & we’ll meet up in Michigan for a full week of camping & exploring together. We’ll mostly be staying in the Upper Peninsula & we’ve never visited before, so we cannot wait to discover a new-to-us place & make some fun memories! We’re currently researching things to do & places to see and would love your recommendations if you’ve traveled there before or if you live in the area.
CRAVING
I don’t know about you, but I am so ready to pack away my socks & boots and start pulling out my spring footwear! Apart from sandals, I don’t have a lot of lighter color flats, so I’m on the hunt and these white loafers immediately caught my eye – they get great reviews for being comfortable and I think they’d be easy to dress up or down. More spring shoes to check out: these bow flats, these block heel pumps & these slip-on sneakers.
READING
Having gone through two out-of-state moves less than 4 years apart, I feel like I could write a book about the difficulties that come with having to adapt to a different place and trying to find a new group of friends. It can be so hard walking into a social circle where most of the women have known each other for years and feeling like an outsider. This article is one of the best pieces I’ve come across on the subject of inclusion – it’s a bit lengthy, but definitely worth the read. It’s a great reminder to err on the side of kindness because it costs you nothing & can have a profound impact on someone else’s life.
LOVING
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of statement earrings, but several of the styles I own are not the most comfortable to wear for long periods of time. So, I was happy to see several brands coming out with super lightweight options for spring. These mother-of-pearl drops are at the top of my wish list – I love the modern shape and pretty blush hue (they also come in a gorgeous turquoise). Other options to try if you also have sensitive lobes: these gold fringe drops, these geometric earrings, these double hoops & these stone drops.
WEARING
I went on a bit of a shopping spree at Sephora recently & picked up a few new products to try. This micro-fine powder completely blew me away by the way it instantly blurred imperfections and created a flawless finish – it’s seriously like magic! The instructions state that you can mix it with your favorite foundation, but I prefer to use it as a traditional powder to set my CC cream & create an airbrushed effect. Other products I bought & loved include this leave-in conditioner (a game changer for my dry winter hair), this creme lipstick (LoveCraft is the perfect pinkish nude) & this hand cream (the packaging was too pretty to pass up!).
THINKING
I’m finally wrapping up our home updates & I cannot wait for the painter to come next week! After going back & forth on decor concepts, I decided that I really love the idea of having a few brass accents throughout our house. Because our main living area is mostly neutrals, I think it adds a nice warmth and interest to the space, giving it a more modern feel. Pieces I’d love to incorporate: these storage baskets, this floor lamp, this lantern & these matted frames (great for a gallery wall).
Even a little bit of “home retouch” does a big difference in daily life, you feel as if you’ve got a whole new place to live in without actually moving anywhere. I’m also thinking about lighter clothes and Spring/ Summer shoes. White loafers like those are def. going to be on my wish list. 🙂
