Thank you to Nordstrom & ShopStyle for kindly sponsoring this post.
All opinions are 100% honest & all items were hand-selected by me.
Today is the day the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale officially opens to the general public! If you aren’t a cardholder & were waiting to shop, now is your chance to grab the best brand new arrivals for fall for up to 40% off. I placed my order last week and was able to try everything on & put together my top picks into complete outfits to share with you here.
Even if you don’t have a Nordstrom card, I highly recommend signing up for The Nordy Club, which is basically their version of a membership program. It’s completely free to join & you’ll earn points for every purchase you make (no matter how you pay) +and you get priority access to style events, workshops + be the first to shop select brands!
I initially ordered online and had things shipped to me, but I ended up doing an order pickup at my local store last week because I found a few more goodies that had been restocked! If you have a location near you, I highly recommend doing the curbside pick-up – you just pull into one of the designated parking spots, call the number on the sign, and they walk your order out & place it in your trunk (super fast, totally touchless and so convenient!).
It can be easy to go overboard with this sale, so the approach I usually take is to focus on versatile wardrobe staples that I can style multiple ways & wear year after year. Everything I’m highlighting below are classic styles that will be easy to mix & match with items you already have in your closet. A few items not shown that are worth looking at: this faux fur blanket (under $30), this packable nylon tote (perfect for travel), this layering necklace (would make a great gift!), this lip balm set (I get one every year) and these comfy pajamas (shorts set here). Read on for my full reviews + sizing info…
This cardigan might just be my favorite piece from the whole sale – I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did, but it is practically perfect in every way. The material is unbelievably soft and because it’s a thinner knit, you can layer it over dresses, tees, tanks, you name it! It comes in 8 different colors, though some sizes/colors are already sold out. You could so easily dress this up, but I love the idea of pairing it with casual separates for a cool athleisure vibe – this is my go-to combo when traveling!
These white sneakers were a surprise hit for me, but they do run very large – I had to go down a full size to get a perfect fit and they are a little wide, so if you have a narrower foot, I’d try these sneakers instead. And because I always get asked about what kind of socks I wear with shoes like this, these are my favorite no-show style.
I already own a pair of the famous Spanx leggings, but I might actually like this faux-leather pair better! Not only are they a lot more affordable, but they actually look & feel like leather, which is what I was wanting. These are also a thicker fabric so they will be much warmer in the fall/winter too! Another difference I noted is that these have a shorter inseam – I personally prefer to show a little sliver of skin between the bottom of the legging hem & the top of my boot, flat or sneaker. So, for those of you who tried the Spanx version, but found them too long, I’d definitely recommend giving these a try (runs true to size).
What I’m wearing:
c/o Leith Cardigan, c/o Caslon Crewneck Tee,
c/o BP Faux Leather Leggings, c/o Madewell Sneakers,
Gorjana Coin Necklace
This is definitely more of a statement jacket because the pattern is so bold, but it’s a classic print & the silhouette is timeless, so I know I can wear this for years to come. This has the look of a tweed jacket, but the comfort of a knit, which I think is more practical for everyday (would look amazing with a pop of red!). I layered it over this stretchy camisole (an essential layering piece) and styled it with pointy-toe booties for a modern-meets-classic feel. I recommend sizing down in this jacket unless you prefer a roomy fit.
I’m a huge fan of this brand of denim, but they’re usually out of my price range, so now is a great time to get them for less! These jeans are everything you want – stretchy, high-waisted & with a slightly cropped length, they’re the pair you’ll be living in once the cooler weather hits. These are fully stocked, run true to size & also come in petite.
These booties are the only pair I ordered from the sale because I was needing a new pair of black ones. They’re the ideal shaft height for wearing with jeans, skirts or dresses & they also come in cognac & a fun leopard print. If you’re looking for some chic fall boots, check out these cognac booties, these over-the-knee boots or these block heel booties (if you don’t mind a higher heel, these are gorgeous too).
What I’m wearing:
c/o Halogen Houndstooth Jacket, c/o Halogen Camisole,
c/o Kut from the Kloth Jeans, c/o Charles by Charles David Booties,
Gorjana Mini Strand Necklace, BaubleBar Beaded Hoops
Two years ago, I bought a real suede moto jacket from the Anniversary sale and, while I love the look of it, the fabric is very stiff and somewhat constricting, so it’s not one I reach for often. This jacket, on the other hand, is a buttery soft faux suede with a really nice stretch to it, which makes it so much easier to layer over sweaters (plus it’s lighter weight, so it would work well in the spring too!). This comes in 4 colors & runs true to size (another option here).
This slouchy fine-knit sweater was one of the items I ordered at the last minute & picked up at my local store…and now I’m thinking I might need it in gray too! It’s just such an easy layering piece that’s truly seasonless – and for less than $25, it’s such a steal! Pair it with joggers (like these or these) + comfy slippers and you’ve got a cozy work-from-home look!
I’m pretty picky when it comes to flats because comfort is really important to me and, since I’m a size 10, the silhouette has to be flattering or my feet will look even bigger than they already are (tall girl problems!). These loafer mules come in black, tan, leopard & the snake print I’m wearing here – I think they have a good amount of cushioning and I really liked the way they look on. I also loved these chain mules, but they have a longer toe that didn’t work for me – if you have smaller or more narrow feet, they are so gorgeous in person & the quality of leather is amazing (I found them true to size). See more of my favorites below!
What I’m wearing:
c/o Kut from the Kloth Moto Jacket (also love this one), c/o BP Sweater,
c/o Kut from the Kloth Jeans, c/o Treasure & Bond Mules,
Gorjana Coin Necklace, Ray-Ban Classic Wayfarers
