When it comes to my closet, I like to have things a certain way, so keeping my clothes freshly laundered & wrinkle-free is a top priority. There’s nothing worse than reaching for what you want to wear only to find that it needs to be pressed…especially when you’re running short on time in the morning. During the summer months, I find that so many of the clothes I wear are rayon, silk or linen…so I have to be extra vigilant in order to keep them looking pristine.
Finding a high-quality steamer has been essential to ensuring that my clothes look good at all times. And, over the years, I’ve come up with a simple method to keep my wardrobe ready to wear, so I thought I’d share with you today 4 easy steps that you can incorporate into your schedule to make this happen:
1) After the laundry is done, set aside any wrinkled clothes on a separate rack or in a designated part of your closet, so you know they need to be steamed before they can be worn. I use this foldable garment rack that rolls so I can easily move it where I need it to be.
2) Invest in good quality hangers – I swear by these because not only does the slim profile help create more hanging space in my closet, but even the slinkiest fabrics won’t slip off while I’m steaming them. (Luggage // Rug // Similar Wall Art // Embellished Sandals // Metallic Sandals)
3) Set aside 15-20 minutes each week that you can dedicate to steaming your clothes – like any other household chore, you can stay on top of it if you are consistent. This way, the clothes don’t pile up over time and it doesn’t feel as overwhelming.
4) Turn on some music to lighten the mood – there’s something about doing this that makes it feel less like I’m doing “housework”. This is a trick I use with my kids too – they have a much more enthusiasm when I ask them to clean their room if they can listen to their favorite CD while they tidy up (and sometimes this turns into a family dance party when we’re all done!).
I’ve always used a steamer for my daily needs but the model I have is several years old and not holding up as well as I’d hoped after multiple uses & regular travel. So, it was definitely time for an upgrade and I was happy to test out this Rowenta Steam ‘N Press Handheld Steamer, which works like a charm & is affordably priced!
The first thing I noticed is how compact & lightweight this model is, which makes it perfect for packing to bring on trips with me. It has variable controls that allow you to select a different setting based on the type of fabric + a metal soleplate that doubles as an iron to help press out even the most stubborn wrinkles (something my previous model didn’t have).
Thanks to the large water tank, you can steam clothes for 15 minutes before needing to refill (that’s up to 5 shirts!). It also comes with a water cup (so you won’t overfill), a fabric brush & lint pad (so handy for different knits) & a travel pouch to keep everything tidy in your suitcase. Best of all, it’s less than $30, so you don’t have to spend a fortune to look your best in all those summer favorites. I’d love to hear if you have any organizational or time-saving tips for staying on top of the laundry in your house!
