I grew up in a house where plaid was my mom’s main decorating theme. Checkered fabric hung from our curtain rods, a tartan tablecloth was draped over our dining room table and, believe it or not, we even had a plaid-upholstered couch. Not only did she decorate with it, but most of the clothes she bought for me as a child were plaid. Because of this pattern overload constantly surrounding me, when I was old enough to pick out my own clothes in high school, I completely rejected wearing this classic print and swore it off for years (my not-so-subtle way of rebelling).
