If you’ve been following my site for a while, you know my affinity for blazers runs pretty deep. Although my style has become more less preppy over the years, they’re still a wardrobe essential for me. I had a lingering gift card to use up at Express so I waited for a 40% off sale & snatched up this plaid blazer – I will admit that I would never have paid full price for this…but being on sale, it was definitely a worthwhile purchase.
I think the key to styling blazers in a modern way is to mix them with unexpected textures, casual basics or feminine details – I love layering a menswear-inspired style over a lace camisole or satin blouse. It’s also nice to dress them down with a simple tee, distressed denim or velvet joggers – the juxtaposition of tailored & relaxed pieces give off an effortless vibe.
My favorite blazers are from H&M, WHBM & Zara – I also own a couple of schoolboy blazers, which have held up really well over the years (if you know what size you are in a specific brand, try searching on eBay or PoshMark). This is an example of a wardrobe staple that you might want to pay more for upfront to get good quality – look for blazers that are fully lined & be sure to buy the size that fits best through the shoulders (everything else can be altered if needed). I am so loving the plaid blazer! Looks like I need to make a stop at Target and H&M haha!
First of all the Express blazer looks fabulous on you. I, too had my eye on it, but I am a petite sz 4 and it was just overwhelming on me. Then I saw the Target version on line, tried it in in the store and loved it. Target’s is more fitted, but I went up a size and was able to get the same boyfriend look.
So glad you found one that worked for you – and the price of that Target style is much better!!
I am currently searching for a blazer! I love your shoes too!
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this blazer from Target. Great price point, but looks much more high end!
