I love getting the most use out of my dresses by layering shirts or sweaters over them (exhibit a & exhibit b). And since my search for the perfect little black flared skirt has thus far been unsuccessful, I decided to “create” my own with a dress I’ve had sitting in my closet for months. It was an easy solution for happy hour with friends & the ideal pairing for this new BaubleBar necklace – my absolute favorite yet from them! With a cool vintage feel, it’s great worn alone against a simple tee for daytime or layered with other pieces for an evening-worthy statement (bonus: it’s under $45!).
What a cute outfit and I love that necklace!
Xo,
Sincerely Miss Ash

Woah….disqus just threw me off…ha ha! LOVE this top. I FINALLY found a flounce/flared skirt that I LOVE from Anthro! =) And that necklace is AMAZING.

Did you pin the shirt up? I always love the way you re-purpose dresses as skirts but I never seem to have any luck when I give it a go. I'll have to keep trying, but do you have any recommendations for what generally does and doesn't work?
Great shoes and skirt! You look so pretty!

Love the touch of casual with the jean jacket.

I love that tweed top from J.Crew… almost picked it up myself and might have to go snatch it on second thought!

For this top, I just folded it under & it worked because the tweed-like fabric stayed in place. You could definitely try pinning it or use a belt and then blouse the top out over the belt so it's hidden. Hope that helps! ๐
Obsessed with that little woven clutch…what a great bag to have to wear with multiple looks!

Love that you can't even tell it is a dress! I can never quite figure out how to make this work for me though haha
I'm definitely into layering. Now that fall is so close I can do it more and more. Love this look!

That's too funny, I almost threw on a little black flared skirt this morning! I was on the hunt for one big-time last fall, and I found mine at Target (I believe it's Merona) and Forever 21. Now I have a more casual outfit idea for mine! Also, I looove that J.Crew top.
I think I know the Target skirt you're referring to – I saw it in store yesterday but they didn't have my size in the black so I bought the burgundy instead! ๐
This is such a great outfit. I love the idea of layering a shirt over a dress.
BaubleBar keeps making better and better necklaces! Hard for me to resist ๐ Such a great outfit! I LOVE the tweed + denim look!
Amazing look <3 I'm in love with your simply but so chic sandals!

Love the idea of making a dress into a skirt. Can you post how you make the shirt look so streamlined over it? And when you find the perfect flared skirt, I can't wait to see it!
I usually pick sleeveless dresses that are more fitted on top so there isn't added bulk when layering over and this particular shirt was a little long so I just folded it under so the proportion was right. Hope that helps! ๐
Totally love this, and wishing even more that this shirt fit me better… it was so boxy. And agree with PearSHapedGIrl — need to do the dress trick more often!

ps: welcome to disqus!!
I agree with you – even though I got the XS, the fit is pretty boxy on me too. I keep thinking I might take it into my tailor on my next trip! ๐
OMG that clutch is SO good!

That definitely helps. I think I'll have to just get a bit more inventive.
Love this look! So smart to use the dress as a skirt. You look gorgeous!

I love it when someone is clever and creative enough to make whatever it is they cannot find like you did with this dress/now skirt. Perfect solution! This tweed top is one of my current faves from J. Crew right now. They also have a fluted skirt in double crepe that you might like. Enjoy!
