The Essential List Of Shoes
It’s safe to say a majority of women, particularly those of you reading this, appreciate a great shoe! Today I’m sharing 8 types of shoes for woman that should be in her closet. Shoes are fun because, generally speaking, there aren’t as many restrictions in terms of size & fit compared to other clothing items. Pants, for example, come in so many shapes and sizes and fits and colors, which gets complicated. Shoes are so much easier! They can turn a bland look into a polished, fashion forward look. Sometimes though, it can be hard to pick the right shoe.

This post is here to help you out and make sure you have all of the shoe staples you’ll ever need in your closet. That way, when you aren’t sure which shoe to choose, one of these 8 choices is sure to be a winner! Everything is under $100 as of writing this post! These shoes aren’t trendy. However, they are timeless styles that can be worn with a majority of your outfits. Many of these are featured in capsule wardrobes, like this one, and packing lists, like this.
8 Types of Shoes Every Woman Should Own
1. Black Pumps
A classic black pump is the ultimate essential of all types of shoes for women, generally speaking. It can be worn with a t-shirt and jeans to instantly polish an ultra casual look. Or it can be worn to a formal black-tie event. Even if your daily lifestyle doesn’t require a heel, I recommend having a pair for special occasions.
2. Black Flat
I consider a black flat a more comfortable version of a black pump. Whether you work in an office or are a stay-at-home mom, a black flat fits any lifestyle! Wear with pants or a nice dress. A good black flat is extremely versatile.
3. White Sneaker
White sneakers made a huge comeback in recent years. Today, you see them styled with pants and even dresses! There are even professional office wear looks that look good with a clean, modern sneaker. The versatility makes it an essential shoe every woman should own.
4. Leopard Flat
In my opinion, leopard is a neutral. Are you with me?! I think leopard, when used in moderation, can be paired with any look. I even like to pair a nice leopard flat with a plaid top. The options are endless, that’s why I have included a leopard flat on the essential list of types of shoes for women.
5. Tall Boot
For boots like this, I do recommend keeping the color either black or brown. I like the cognac brown personally. These are essential for cooler climates but can also be worn in climates that are warm (not hot) with dresses and skirts.
6. Ankle Boots
Ankle boots, particularly suede or leather, are a must for fall and winter. The lighter tan color can also be worn well into the spring. I recommend a lighter tan because you will get more wear for your money. However, if you work in an office setting, black would be my recommendation.
7. Sandals
The outfit possibilities are endless with a great sandal. Sandals can be worn from late spring to early fall, which is why I recommend most women have at least one good pair in their closet. I also like to take a nice sandal when we go on a beach vacation.
8. Slippers
Whether you work from home or not, you need a nice slipper. Having a structured slipper not only keeps your feet warm, but it makes you feel a little more “dressed” on days you’re not leaving the house. When I’m not working, I like to have a slipper that resembles a real shoe for when we have company.
BONUS
There is one more shoe I think every wardrobe needs. A chelsea boot. These are so comfortable yet stylish! I have a pair and wear them so much during the fall. In the winter, I like to layer cozy socks over skinny jeans with these boots. I prefer the rainboot style, that way I have a stylish shoe for wet weather.
