What is a Coatigan and How to Style a Camel Coatigan

If there is one item I reach for time and time again, it is a coatigan. You might be wondering, what is a coatigan? It is simply a blend of a cardigan and a coat. It is one of my favorite wardrobe staples. To give you style inspiration for the Fall and Winter and to help you outfit plan, I put together 15 different outfit ideas using my favorite coatigans.

Mango, J.Crew, and Amazon have some of the best coatigan options and they always sell quick as soon as Summer comes to an end. That is why Summer is my favorite time to grab Fall and Winter items because they are usually fully stocked and often discounted!

Tan, Gray, and Camel Coatigan Outfits

There is nothing worse than stumbling across a compilation of outfits from random influencers you may or may not relate to. Therefore, I strive to share realistic and attainable looks I hope you love! These outfits come from my own wardrobe of neutral, casual, and slightly elevated items. 1. White Top + Jeans + Loafers + Coatigan

A basic top and jeans is an effortless base outfit and great for wearing under layering pieces, such as a coatigan. These may be my favorite pair of jeans. They are stretchy and excellent quality! Below, I am wearing the viral Amazon coatigan that looks very similar to the iconic J.Crew coatigan! Both jeans and coatigan are TTS.

2. Monochrome Base + Sneakers

When I am in a pinch for time in the morning, I will grab a black tank and leggings then pick a layer to complete the outfit. This is always an easy outfit idea and it looks chic!

3. Denim on Denim + Boots

You read that right. Denim on denim is trending. Western attire is EVERYWHERE. So here it is, styled with a coatigan. I was hesitant to actually post this outfit but I am really liking it now! If this is too much denim for your taste, you could swap out the jeans for leggings or swap the top for a solid neutral t-shirt.

4. Faux Leather Leggings + Graphic T-Shirt + Coatigan

For a casual outfit, pair a graphic t-shirt with faux leather leggings under a coatigan. A versatile graphic t-shirt, like this one, is easy to dress up or down. It is featured a few times in this post!

A coatigan is easy to dress up with a simple black dress and heels. I would wear this outfit to a fall wedding, church, or other special event.

9. Leggings + Thermal + Chelsea Boots

This base layer is one I wear at home all of the time, so I will break it down for you. This men’s thermal is so warm and comfy, I have it in five colors now! These leggings are target and are the ones I reach for the most for everyday wear. Adding a sweater coat over these pieces adds extra warmth and makes me feel more put together. Love this one!

10. Black Top + Jeans + Flats

This is a foolproof outfit combination. Black and gray is one of my default color combinations when I feel like I have nothing to wear! These flats were featured on my honest review of Vivaia shoes. The shoes could be swapped out for heels or sneakers, depending on the look you want.

11. Quarter Zip + Jeans + Sneakers

This will be a camel coatigan outfit I wear throughout the Fall and Winter. It is casual, yet structured, making it an easy outfit to wear around as a busy mom! This Amazon quarter zip is a super soft cozy fleece inside, therefore this outfit would be plenty warm to wear outside in 50-60 degree temperatures.

12. Cashmere + White Jeans + Boots

Camel, white, and gray is such a pretty color combination, as you can see here. I am wearing a super affordable cashmere sweater and Amazon jeans with black boots. If a sweater is too warm for you, swap it for a gray t-shirt or gray tank top!

Like I said before, western attire is popular right now. This outfit is understated western but still so cute. This Dolly T-shirt was a Walmart find (shop similar here) and these western boots are from Amazon! Literally any boot and t-shirt combination would look good with this outfit.

14. Faux Leather Leggings + Black Top + Black Boots

This camel cardigan coat outfit is ideal for date night or a girls night out. As a work from home mom, I practically live in leggings and find it difficult to wear anything else. What I love about faux leather leggings is that they provide comfort without sacrificing style.

15. Sweater Dress + Boots

A sweater dress is a Fall staple, making it the perfect base to wear under this layering piece. For shorter dresses, the sweater coat adds extra length which I love!
