Overwhelmed by all of the options in your closet? Tired of spending money on the trending seasonal look? Is your closet full of clothes, but you feel like you have nothing to wear? Dreaming of the effortless looks you see on social media? Wishing you could finally commit to creating a capsule wardrobe? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are in the right place.
If I’m being honest, I answered yes to every single one of those questions. This is what inspired me to create a capsule and share with you! A capsule wardrobe is a small set of clothes and shoes, which all mix and match and make many outfits together. Use this winter capsule wardrobe to reduce stress, save time, and make your (fashion) life a little bit easier.
Subscribe below to Penny Picher Fashion’s email distribution and receive a FREE outfit calendar, where I will share 52 outfits from this winter capsule wardrobe and a daily outfit planner. The daily outfit planner will give you a full outfit for the day (from this capsule of course), so you just have to grab the pieces & get dressed in the morning. This takes the guess work out of getting dressed.

How many pieces are in the Winter Capsule Wardrobe 2021?
While every capsule wardrobe is different, this one contains 22 pieces: 8 tops, 3 layering items, 1 dress, 4 pants, 2 coats, and 4 shoes. I was able to create 52 outfits using all just 20 pieces from this capsule (excluded the coats).
Considering I work from home and have a casual style, this capsule reflects that. I don’t wear dresses or skirts often, but like having one on hand for a special occasion. If you need to dress this capsule up a bit, you could swap out a pair of pants for a black pencil or midi skirt. The black cardigan could also be replaced with a black blazer.
Winter Capsule Colors
This capsule is primarily using a neutral color palette full of black, white, gray, camel, & denim. For the winter season, I decided to use emerald green as the accent color. This could easily be swapped out for maroon, red, or royal blue. Many of these pieces are wardrobe staples (striped tee, leggings, leather jacket, etc.), so you may find you have a lot of these pieces and colors in your closet already.
Stay tuned, next week I will be giving all the details and tips on creating a staple wardrobe. This will equip you to build a closet foundation full of pieces that can be worn throughout the year! This helps you save time and money!

Tops
Many of these are wardrobe staples that you may already have in your closet. What is nice about a neutral color palette, is that if you prefer a specific neutral color over another that is an easy change. For example, if you do not like the camel t-shirt shown, you could use a black, gray, or white tee! This will still coordinate with the other pieces in the capsule. Just try not to get too many pieces of the same color. I am guilty of buying black everything!
Below are my recommendations for tops. FOr the turtleneck and black sweater, I am linking cashmere options as well. I cannot say enough good things about investing in a quality cashmere sweater. I personally wear the same cashmere sweater I purchased 10 years ago. They hold up so well! When shopping for these winter capsule cashmere pieces, search “turtleneck” and “crew neck”. Gentle Herd offers amazing cashmere at affordable prices. Right now they have 30% off!

Layers & Dress
If you need to dress up a little bit, the black cardigan or leather jacket can be replaced with a black blazer. The dress can also be swapped for another color. White is a great option for winter. Don’t forget to layer tights under the dress if you are in a cold climate.

Bottoms
4 pant options are included in this winter capsule wardrobe. These are all casual, neutral pieces that go very well with the other items in this casual. 3 of these pants are wardrobe staples: the faux leather legging, black ankle pant, and jeans. The gray pant is a great option for winter because it is warm and flattering. Any of the options here can be substituted for a pencil, ribbed, or midi skirt. You could also add a pair of skinny jeans if you desire.

Coats and Shoes
I sometimes treat leopard as a neutral color. It is a minimalistic pattern and the colors coordinate so well with other neutral colors. That is why I’ve included the leopard flat here. It also adds interest to the outfit. The leopard could be substituted easily with a black loafer. Two coat options for winter. Both are long, providing extra coverage and warmth. The gray coat is a lightweight option for milder days and can also be used to elevate any casual look.
