Work It Out

When I was in my teens & early twenties, I had a very unhealthy relationship with food and exercise due to an eating disorder I battled for 10 years.  Thankfully, I am fully recovered now and can appreciate exercise for what it does for my body & how it makes me feel.  I know I will never be a size zero because that isn’t how I was built (which I’m completely okay with) – I find I’m so much happier when I focus on working out to feel strong rather than doing it to try & reach a goal that isn’t attainable for me.

I firmly believe that the best method for regular workouts is to do something you enjoy.  The summer is my favorite time of year because the weather is nice enough to be outdoors and I can vary my workouts much more.  And just as important as it is to do an exercise you love, it’s equally crucial to have workout clothes that are comfortable & that you feel good wearing.   I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these Old Navy compression capris, considering that they only cost $17.  The fit is also super-flattering & I love the little color pop detail on the leg.  Plus the cropped length is just right for this time of year…and they come in tall & petite sizes too!

We headed to the local high school track for a little family exercise session to show that you don’t have to pay for a gym membership to get a great workout.  I kept it completely real for this post – not one stitch of makeup and a messy ponytail…because I tend to break a serious sweat when I exercise!

Nothing beats getting a hug from this guy at the end of my run!

What I’m wearing:
Nike tank top (similar here or here), c/o Old Navy pants (here), Snozu jacket via TJ Maxx (similar), Nike shoes via eBay (check listings here or similar here), gifted Nike Fuel Band (from my sweet friend Sharon – here)

See other outfits featuring my favorite Old Navy pieces here: colored denim, printed dress, casual tees & white jeans.

Loving the colour of those Nike shoes!! I have been really impressed with Old Navy's workout clothes but I am a sucker for Lululemon. The quality of Lululemon is totally worth the money in my opinion… 🙂

Love the capris- never thought of Old Navy for work out clothes but I think I'm going to have to make a stop since I'm in need of some new ones. Also, can I please have your complexion without makeup! Your skin is flawless! I think you might have to teach me some new tricks and tips.

I love that last picture of you two. So sweet! I don't own any conventional workout wear since all I do is dance. It would be nice to get some pants though because I can't wear leotard tights and shorts forever!

Such a cute picture with your son! I love Old Navy work out clothes- I had spending tons of money on clothes I'll just sweat in but also hate even more the thought of being in old tshirts while working out!

This is such a fun post, I love workout clothing but a lot of the known brands out there are very expensive. I will definitely go check out old navy now. Also, your story is very inspiring, a lot of women struggle with food and body issues so it is nice to hear from someone who went through it and overcame it.

I admire your bravery of opening up and being so honest at the beginning, I love reading your blog and getting to know you a little bit with each post 🙂 I agree that exercise is all about what is fun for you. I am AWFUL at running, and hate being on the tredmill for more than about 5 minutes. I'd rather lift weight, take a fun cardio class, or walk around my local lake with girlfriends. LOVE those magenta Nike's as well!

    An Nicole,

Coming from someone who is pear-shaped, I can say that they are very forgiving & flattering. I usually have the hardest time with this type of workout pant and these fit me perfectly!
